About Mojo Brookzz

Mojo Brookzz — Dyon Brooks — is Chicago comedy's breakout star: the sketch creator turned stand-up headliner whose characters, impersonations, and sold-out tours made him one of Variety's 10 Comics to Watch.

The come-up was pure social media. Brooks started filming sketches on Facebook and Instagram while working a minimum-wage job in Chicago — and got fired when his boss decided the videos were distracting him from work. Unemployed but encouraged by his mother to bet on the comedy, he kept posting: mom and grandmother impersonations, the "Mr. James" character, and the nine-skit "Thawt in My House" series that became fan canon.

The characters are the engine. Brooks's spot-on family impersonations — the mother, the grandmother, the nosy neighbor energy — turned everyday Black household dynamics into viral gold. The sketches feel lived-in because they are: this is observational comedy built from real kitchens and real aunties.

The leap to mainstream was fast. A Wild 'n Out cast spot, the We Them Ones tour with Mike Epps and DC Young Fly, sold-out headlining runs (the Unhand Me Now Tour packed rooms like Atlanta's Center Stage and Chicago's Vic), and the male lead in Tyler Perry's Netflix series Miss Governor — a multi-week Top 10 hit. Variety's 2025 "10 Comics to Watch" nod made the industry consensus official.

The craft runs deeper than the clips. Brooks contributed to a Midwest Emmy win for his commercial and digital writing — the rare viral comedian with real writer's-room chops behind the characters.

Why people watch: it's joyful, high-energy comedy with heart. Sketch fans who follow Druski's chaos or KevOnStage's church-and-family humor get the Chicago chapter here: same DNA, new city, sold-out rooms.

Previously covers Mojo Brookzz because the pipeline from phone sketches to Netflix leads runs through him now. The tour keeps selling out — catch him if you can.
