Stay On Top (feat. Vanessa Williams) Lyrics

Don't think that I can't see you smugly sitting there with glee
Eager for the ending you've been waiting years to see
Today she's getting ousted, yes, her final hour is nigh
Miranda's reign has run its course, that's what you think? Oh, my

So they say, "It's time to fold, she's out of touch, she's getting old
She's a legend, but to stay one, she should stop"
Well, you could quietly submit or pick a throat or two to slit
And step on who you must to stay on top
Stay on top

Did you think I was naive enough to miss the warning signs?
An editor-in-chief can always read between the lines
She who's passive peters out, she who's ruthless perseveres
And ruthless is the way that one survives for all these years

So they say she broke the mold, how she's cavalier and cold
So the bitch should pack her bags and close up shop
I can stand each ugly phrase, all those killer queen clichés
'Cause I'm the one who stays

Perfection has a cost, maybe a love or two gets lost
But I'm not about to let my standards drop
I give myself, I give it all, so either rise with me or fall
No regret or guilt, that's not how empires are built

And if it's lonely on the throne, my God, the queen will stand alone
To live the life, she must to pave the way
Push ahead (stay on top), turn the page (stay on top), only forward (stay on top)
To live the life, she must to stay (on, stay on top)
Stay (on, stay on top)
The queen will stand alone to stay on top
