Cable networks don’t hand out early renewals anymore — not for modest performers, not on instinct. So when USA Network renewed Anna Pigeon for Season 2 two days before its Season 1 finale, the message was clear: the numbers did the talking.
NEW YORK — USA Network announced on Wednesday, October 7, that Anna Pigeon, the mystery drama starring Tracy Spiridakos, has been renewed for a second season, as JustJared first reported. The timing is the tell: the Season 1 finale doesn’t air until Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. ET. Networks typically wait to see how a freshman season lands before committing — USA didn’t need to. The show’s debut on August 7 made it the network’s highest-rated original scripted series premiere in nearly eight years, averaging 2.35 million total viewers within the seven days following the premiere, per the network’s own figures, republished by The Futon Critic. It remains the No. 1 new scripted drama on ad-supported cable in 2026, and across its run it has reached 18 million total viewers.
The renewal also marks the continued expansion of USA’s original scripted slate, per the network’s announcement — arriving ahead of the second-season premiere of the John Grisham legal drama The Rainmaker and alongside the greenlight for a new scripted original, Diplomatic Immunity. After a decade in which scripted originals that once defined channels like USA grew rarer, the network is betting that broadcast-style storytelling still works on cable — and Anna Pigeon is now the proof of concept.
The series is based on the New York Times bestselling Anna Pigeon novels by Nevada Barr. The first season follows Anna Pigeon (Spiridakos), a former city slicker who became a park ranger after a devastating loss changed the trajectory of her life. While Anna tries to outrun her demons, her focus turns to solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds. Season 2, per the network, promises continued mystery and adventure as Anna’s story continues to unfold.

The 10-episode first season wraps with the episode “SOS” on Friday night. For Spiridakos, the role is a full-circle moment: it’s her first lead role since she departed Chicago P.D. — where she played Detective Hailey Upton — in 2024, as Memorable TV noted. She’s traded Chicago’s Intelligence Unit for national park backcountry, and the audience followed her there in numbers USA hadn’t seen since 2018.
The ensemble around her includes Paulina Alexis, Ronnie Rowe, Tricia Helfer — who plays Molly Pigeon — Kim Coates, Crystle Lightning, Cooper Levy, Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz, Ryan Northcott, Nikki Rae Hallow, Jordan Sledz, and Melanie Scrofano. The series comes from showrunner Morwyn Brebner and director and executive producer Lea Thompson, with Cineflix producing.
The people making the show sounded genuinely thrilled about the news. “Anna Pigeon has connected with audiences in a meaningful way, bringing a compelling new heroine and a fresh perspective to USA Network,” Michael Sluchan, SVP of Scripted Content at Entertainment, Versant — USA’s parent company — said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to continue Anna’s journey with Tracy, Morwyn, Lea and our incredible partners at Cineflix.” Showrunner Brebner added that it’s been thrilling to watch audiences fall in love with Anna and visit the park every week, and that the team “cannot wait to get back outside for Season 2.”

The source material gives the show a deep bench to draw from. Barr’s first Anna Pigeon novel, Track of the Cat, was published in 1993, and the series now spans dozens of books that send the ranger from the desert Southwest to Isle Royale in Lake Superior — the setting of the second book, A Superior Death, per Memorable TV. That’s a renewable resource few adaptations enjoy: a new national park, a new contained mystery, and a new corner of American wilderness for every season.

No premiere date for Season 2 has been announced. What’s certain is the trajectory: a freshman drama that opened to 2.35 million viewers, became the year’s top new scripted show on ad-supported cable, and earned its renewal before its own finale aired. For USA Network, still rebuilding its scripted identity in a streaming-first era, that’s not just a renewal — it’s a template. Friday night’s finale airs at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network.
