The biggest purse in competitive barbecue history is coming to the Las Vegas Strip. The BBQ World Cup & Expo announced Wednesday that Caesars Entertainment will host its inaugural $1 million Finals, April 8–11, 2027 — a four-day championship and expo that will take over six and a half acres of Lot C, the surface lot behind the High Roller observation wheel and adjacent to the Caesars Forum convention center.

Tickets went on sale the same day the announcement landed, Wednesday, October 7. The options, per the announcement distributed through EIN Presswire: single-day general admission, multi-day passes, and VIP hospitality packages. For a first-year event, that is a confident ticket menu — and a sign the organizers expect this to land like a major festival, not a cook-off with folding chairs.

The campusA festival, not a cook-off

The 6.5-acre site will be built out as a single festival campus. Dedicated cook spaces for 100 finalist teams, a main concert stage, and the debut of the BBQ World Expo — the organization’s fan and industry experience with live-fire demonstrations, brand showcases, education programming, and interactive experiences — will all sit inside one footprint. That matters: instead of a competition tucked into a parking lot with a fence around it, the plan reads like a proper food-and-music festival that happens to crown a world champion.

Lot C sits on the east side of the Strip, behind the 550-foot High Roller at The LINQ Promenade and steps from Caesars Forum. It is an unusual stage for a barbecue championship — a paved expanse better known for overflow parking and festival builds — and the choice says a lot about scale. You do not put a cook-off on six and a half acres of Strip-adjacent land unless you expect crowds measured in the tens of thousands.

The road50 qualifiers, 12 countries, 100 pitmasters

Vegas is the finish line of Season One: the “Road to $1 Million.” The championship links 50 qualifying events across the United States and 12 countries — Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, France, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, the UAE, and the United Kingdom. One hundred pitmaster teams will earn their way to the Strip.

The domestic qualifier map reads like a tour of American barbecue culture: the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo BBQ Cook-Off, Lakeland Pigfest, the DC BBQ Battle, the Grand American BBQ World Championship, the South Carolina Festival of Discovery, and Smokin’ on the Rio, with international stops including Meatstock in Australia, per the launch materials the organizers shared earlier this year. The pitch is deliberately inclusive — new competitors and long-time professionals on the same road, all of it funneled into one Vegas weekend.

“The teams who make it to Las Vegas will have earned it at events that have been building this craft for decades,” said Scott Erdmann, the BBQ World Cup’s co-founder and CEO, in Wednesday’s announcement. “Our job is to put them in front of the world.”

“This is not about replacing the events that built competitive barbecue,” said Shannon Pruitt, co-founder and president, when the World Cup was first unveiled. “It’s about connecting them into a season that invites new competitors into the sport and creates opportunities for long-time professionals.”

Why VegasAnother big-event win for the Strip

For Las Vegas, this is another first-of-its-kind property on the calendar. The city has spent the last decade converting its spring shoulder season into marquee-event season, and a global championship with a million-dollar purse, a concert stage, and a built-in international audience is exactly the kind of thing the Strip knows how to host. Caesars putting its name on the host line is the tell — the company does not lend the Strip to an unproven concept unless the numbers pencil out.

For visitors, the timing is about as friendly as it gets: early April on the Strip means warm afternoons and cool nights, and a four-day pass built around eating world-class barbecue in the middle of it all. The ticket tiers tell the same story as the venue plan — this is aimed squarely at the Vegas weekend-trip playbook, from single-day samplers to multi-day passes to VIP hospitality. If you are tracking the city’s dining scene, pencil this one in early: April 2027 is already shaping up to be one of the tastiest weekends of the year.

What’s nextQualifiers fire up, details to come

The Road to $1 Million is officially underway. With the host locked in and tickets live, the season of qualifying events now has its destination: Las Vegas, April 2027. The organizers say expanded qualifier schedules and competition details will be announced in the coming months — including, presumably, the concert lineup for that main stage, which will tell us a lot about how big they intend this to feel. For now, the facts are the venue, the dates, the purse, and the tickets. In barbecue, as in Vegas, that is plenty to start with.
