Drishyam 3 Crosses ₹150 Crore in Opening Weekend

Sunday’s ₹61 crore day took Drishyam: The Conclusion to ₹176.50 crore India net — the second-biggest opening weekend of 2026 — with ₹272.80 crore worldwide and a franchise record smashed by nearly 7.5x.

MUMBAI — It took until Sunday afternoon for the suspense to end, but once it did, there was no contest. Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion crossed the ₹150 crore mark at the Indian box office and kept climbing, minting ₹61 crore on its first Sunday alone — a 14 percent jump over Saturday — to close its opening weekend at ₹176.50 crore India net, according to trade tracker Sacnilk, as reported by Filmibeat. The ₹150 crore milestone itself fell by Sunday afternoon, with the total at ₹151 crore as of 4 PM. Three days into its run, the conclusion of one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved franchises has already rewritten its record books.

The day-wise split tells the story of a weekend that never cooled. The film, which released on Friday, October 2 — the Gandhi Jayanti holiday — opened to ₹62 crore India net, held at ₹53.50 crore on Saturday, then surged again on Sunday to ₹61 crore. Behind those net figures, the India gross stands at ₹211.80 crore. The overseas business was just as healthy: ₹20 crore on Sunday alone took the three-day overseas total to ₹61 crore, and the worldwide gross to ₹272.80 crore — within striking distance of the ₹300 crore club in the film’s very first week, a benchmark no Drishyam film has ever approached.

That is a startling escalation from where this story stood just two days ago. As previously reported, the film had taken ₹115.50 crore in its first two days. The Sunday rebound — audiences turning out in force after strong word of mouth through the weekend — added ₹61 crore more, producing a weekend total nearly two-thirds bigger than the two-day figure. Sunday’s occupancy ran at roughly 64.29 percent across 17,323 shows, per Sacnilk via Filmibeat, the kind of demand that suggests the film played like an event, not a routine release.

THE RECORDS — With ₹176.50 crore on the board, The Conclusion has recorded the second-highest opening weekend of 2026, Filmibeat reports. The superlatives don’t stop there: the film has also logged the fifth-highest first-three-days collection, the fifth-highest first Sunday and the fifth-fastest sprint to ₹150 crore — beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan on each of those three measures. For a franchise whose first film was a sleeper success, not an opening-weekend juggernaut, these are the numbers of a series that has completely changed its weight class.

Put the three films side by side and the arc is remarkable, as Bollywood Hungama’s box-office analysis lays out. The 2015 original, Drishyam, opened to ₹23.05 crore — a modest start for a film that grew on word of mouth into a cultural phenomenon. Drishyam 2 opened to ₹64.14 crore in 2022, nearly three times its predecessor’s weekend, and finished its lifetime run at ₹240.54 crore. The Conclusion has taken the opening weekend to roughly ₹176 crore: more than seven times the original’s weekend and about 2.7 times Drishyam 2’s — a jump of some ₹110 crore over its predecessor in just one generation. It is one of the cleanest examples in modern Hindi cinema of a franchise whose audience multiplied with every installment.

None of this would have landed without the film working. The Conclusion, directed by Abhishek Pathak, arrives with the franchise’s heaviest expectations and — unusually for a third installment — a different approach from its Malayalam counterpart, according to Filmibeat. Renowned critic Taran Adarsh rated the film 4.5 stars, calling it the best film in the franchise and among the best films of 2026, and declared it a sure-shot blockbuster. Devgn is joined by the series’ familiar ensemble — Shriya Saran, Tabu, Jaideep Ahlawat, Ishita Dutta, Rajat Kapoor and Prakash Raj — closing out a story that has kept audiences guessing for more than a decade.

THE CONTEXT — The Gandhi Jayanti release date did its part: a national holiday Friday gave the film a launchpad most releases would envy, and the weekend’s holds suggest the holiday bump converted into genuine audience momentum. But the bigger context is how India’s box office has evolved into a franchise-first market. Across the industry, legacy sequels are the surest currency of 2026 — Rajinikanth’s return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in the Jailer 2 trailer is drawing the same kind of fever down south. October’s calendar is stacked beyond India, too, with Netflix’s La Bola Negra heading to theaters this month. In a crowded season, The Conclusion didn’t just survive the competition — it became the story of the weekend.

Now comes the question that will define the run: the Monday hold. With ₹272.80 crore already in the bank worldwide, the film needs only a modest weekday trajectory to push past ₹300 crore worldwide — and the India net, at ₹176.50 crore after three days, has Drishyam 2’s ₹240.54 crore lifetime total firmly in its sights within the first week. Trade watchers will be tracking the drop from Sunday to Monday as the first real test of how long the legs are. If the weekend’s word of mouth is real — and a 14 percent Sunday jump says it is — the finale could end up doing in one week what its predecessors took their entire runs to do.

THE FRANCHISE — For Ajay Devgn, this is the crown jewel of a career built on franchises — and the only one that has grown like this. Drishyam went from a ₹23 crore opening weekend to ₹176 crore in three films, a nearly ₹151 crore climb that Bollywood Hungama notes is itself a record of the series’ expanding audience. The trajectory — sleeper hit, blockbuster sequel, opening-weekend phenomenon — is the inverse of how most franchises behave, and it explains why the conclusion of the Salgaonkar saga has become the defining box-office story of this October. The numbers will keep moving through the week. But the verdict of the opening weekend is already in: The Conclusion delivered an ending worthy of the franchise — and then some.
