DWCS Week 9: Dana White’s Own Employee KOs His Way Into the UFC as Four Contracts Get Handed Out

Preston LaGrange, Sal Everett, Roque Conceicao and Mateus Soares earned UFC contracts at Dana White’s Contender Series 95 on Tuesday night at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas — while Alivia Bierley’s decision win wasn’t enough to get a deal.

The Short Version

The most unforgettable storyline of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10 didn’t come from a blue-chip prospect or a viral knockout artist. It came from the boss’s own payroll. Salahuddin “Sal” Everett — who works as Dana White’s personal runner — flattened Ozzy Martin with a vicious left-right combination at DWCS 95 on Tuesday night at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, sending White ripping off his broadcast headset with a grin as the building erupted. Everett was one of four fighters to earn a UFC contract on the night, alongside Preston LaGrange, Roque Conceicao and Mateus Soares.

Five fights, four contracts, four first-round finishes — and one hard lesson for Alivia Bierley, who won her fight and still went home without a deal. Here’s how Week 9 played out on Paramount+.

DWCS 95 · Light HeavyweightPreston LaGrange def. Nell Ariano — TKO (punches), R1 2:24

The night opened with a statement from a man who wasn’t supposed to be here. Preston LaGrange (7-1) took the fight on two weeks’ notice and moved up a weight class to do it, weighing in at 199.5 pounds against Nell Ariano’s 205. None of it mattered. LaGrange overwhelmed Ariano (6-1) in just over two minutes, pouring on punches until the referee had seen enough at 2:24 of the opening round.

Speaking with Laura Sanko afterward, LaGrange made it clear this was years in the making: “I’ve been chasing that UFC contract since I started in MMA. I’m ready to do this.” He added that he’s ready for the UFC’s middleweight division — a notable declaration from a man who just fought at light heavyweight on short notice. White didn’t hesitate: contract.

DWCS 95 · WelterweightSal Everett def. Ozzy Martin — KO (punches), R1 1:57

Then came the moment of the season. Sal Everett (5-0) walked in with a storyline no producer could script: he works as Dana White’s personal runner, and White acknowledged before the fight that he was rooting for him. For a while, it looked like the fairytale might die early — New England’s Ozzy Martin (4-1) had Everett’s nose bloodied and was having success in the opening exchanges.

Then Everett trapped Martin along the fence and uncorked a left-right combination that folded him — Martin’s legs bent behind him as he crashed to the canvas at 1:57 of round one. The Meta APEX exploded. White ripped off his headset, smiling ear to ear. You can manufacture a lot of things in this sport. You can’t manufacture that.

DWCS 95 · FlyweightRoque Conceicao def. Alexander Chavez — Submission (triangle choke), R1 3:37

If Everett provided the emotion, Roque Conceicao (12-3) provided the grit. The Brazilian survived a brutal slam from the previously unbeaten Alexander Chavez (9-1) — the kind of slam that ends nights — and then did what elite grapplers do: he locked up a triangle choke and finished it at 3:37 of the first round.

White praised the completeness of the performance afterward: the striking, the kicks, taking Chavez’s best shots and still finding the submission. In a night full of one-punch highlights, Conceicao’s win was a reminder that the Contender Series rewards the full mixed martial artist, not just the heavy hitters. Contract, no debate.

DWCS 95 · BantamweightMateus Soares def. Ryuho Miyaguchi — TKO (punches), R1 1:03

The fastest finish of the night belonged to the youngest winner. Mateus Soares, all of 22 years old, needed just 63 seconds to dismantle Ryuho Miyaguchi (7-2). A huge right hand dropped Miyaguchi early, and Soares (12-2) swarmed with the kind of violent efficiency that makes matchmakers take notice — his 10th knockout in 12 career wins.

Through an interpreter, Soares told Sanko: “I’ve been dreaming of this since I was seven years old.” White’s response said everything about how the UFC views the Brazilian: “You’re exactly what I was looking for… You’re an absolute killer at 22 years old.” At bantamweight — one of the deepest divisions in the sport — Soares just became a name to watch.

DWCS 95 · Women’s BantamweightAlivia Bierley def. Summer Onley — Unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

And then the cruelest lesson the Contender Series teaches: winning isn’t always enough. Alivia Bierley (6-1) beat Summer Onley (6-1) on all three scorecards, but White passed on awarding her a contract. His explanation was blunt. White said:

“I had it 1-1 going into the third round, and I felt like neither girl tried to really get in there and impose their will… So unfortunately, not tonight.” On DWCS, a decision win without a signature moment is often a ticket to the regional circuit, not the UFC. Bierley did enough to win the fight. She didn’t do enough to win the contract. That’s the deal every fighter signs up for on Tuesday nights in Las Vegas.

Season 10The pipeline keeps producing

With four more contracts, Season 10’s total climbs to 42 — up from the 38 awarded before Week 9. For context: last season produced 46 contracts across 10 events, and the 2024 season produced 42. The Contender Series, which began in 2017, has now funneled well over 300 fighters into the UFC, and four of its alumni have gone on to become UFC champions.

That’s the real story of Tuesday night. Not just four new contracts, but four new lottery tickets for a promotion that keeps cashing them. A short-notice middleweight willing to fight up a class. The boss’s runner with dynamite in his hands. A grappler who eats slams for breakfast. A 22-year-old killer who’s been dreaming of this since he was seven. The UFC’s talent pipeline doesn’t sleep — and on Tuesday nights at the APEX, it puts on a show. Follow every contract winner and what comes next on the fight page.
