Game Pass October Wave: Battlefield 6 In, Expedition 33 Out - and You’ve Got Seven Days

Microsoft’s October Game Pass wave is headlined by Battlefield 6 - but the real headline is what’s leaving: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the year’s best games, exits the service on October 15. Nine games in, nine out, and one genuine ’play it before it’s gone’ emergency.

The Short Version

October is the cruelest month on Game Pass. Microsoft announced the service’s second October wave on Wednesday, and it is a genuinely stacked lineup: Battlefield 6 headlines nine games arriving between October 8 and 16, eight of them day-one launches. But every Game Pass wave giveth and taketh away - and what this one taketh is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, arguably the best game of 2026, leaving the service on October 15. You have seven days.

02 The Incoming Wave

The headliner needs little introduction. Battlefield 6 arrives October 13 for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers through EA Play, landing the same week the game goes head-to-head with the fall shooter season. It’s the biggest third-party day-one-style get Game Pass has landed in months, and it arrives at a moment when Microsoft needs the wins: the service’s audience has been watching the subscription math closely all year.

Around it, Microsoft packed the wave with day-one launches - the lifeblood of the Game Pass value proposition. Today, October 8, brings Echo Weaver, Forever Ago, and Neon Abyss 2 straight to the service. October 13 adds Deep Dish Dungeon and Valor Mortis alongside Battlefield 6. October 15 brings Bluey’s Happy Snaps and Chained Beasts, and October 16 closes the wave with Beyond These Stars. That’s eight day-one releases in nine days, a release cadence that would be a respectable indie showcase on its own. The October 13 drop is a double-header: alongside Battlefield 6 comes Valor Mortis, One More Level’s first-person Napoleonic soulslike - delayed from September 24 - with Vincent Cassel voicing Napoleon himself. And Battlefield 6 arrives with its Las Vegas-themed Season 5 in tow, days before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 - which, notably, is not coming to Game Pass at launch.

The mix is classic Game Pass: a blockbuster tentpole, a stack of day-one indies, and enough variety that almost every subscriber has something with their name on it. For a service that lives and dies on the feeling of abundance, this is the feeling working as intended.

The fine print matters for subscribers deciding what they actually get. Battlefield 6 lands on Ultimate and PC Game Pass via EA Play - not the cheaper tiers. Most of the day-one indies span Ultimate and PC, with Neon Abyss 2 also reaching Premium; Beyond These Stars, closing the wave on October 16, is PC-only. This is the second official October roundup, following the wave that straddled September into October, and the cadence is the message: Microsoft is stacking content weekly through the fall, one eye on the holiday season and the other on November 19, when GTA VI arrives to swallow everyone’s attention for a month.

03 The One That Hurts

And then there’s the other list. On October 15, the departing list includes A Plague Tale: Requiem, Crime Scene Cleaner, Evil West, Pacific Drive and others - and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Stop and sit with that last one. Expedition 33 isn’t catalog filler. It’s the French turn-based RPG that came out of nowhere this spring to become one of the most beloved games of the year - a genuine game-of-the-year contender with a painterly art style, a devastating story, and combat that made turn-based feel electric again. We flagged its departure earlier this week, and the math hasn’t changed: if it’s in your backlog, the backlog is now on a timer. Seven days.

The rest of the departing list stings less, but A Plague Tale: Requiem is a real loss - a gorgeous, grim narrative adventure that deserved a bigger audience - and Pacific Drive’s survival-road-trip weirdness will be missed. This is the subscription bargain in its purest form: the library is never really yours. It just feels like it, right up until the 15th.

04 The Subscription Chessboard

Zoom out and the October picture is a familiar Game Pass rhythm: a tentpole to drive sign-ups, a deep bench of day-one indies to justify the monthly charge, and a high-profile departure to remind everyone why ’play it now’ is the only sane backlog strategy. PlayStation, for its part, has its own October answer already live - F1 25 and Hunt: Showdown headline the PS Plus monthly games - making October one of the busier subscription months in recent memory.

The strategic read is straightforward. With the holiday season six weeks out and GTA VI’s November 19 launch about to swallow the entire industry’s oxygen, both subscription services are loading their October lineups to lock in subscribers before the storm. Battlefield 6 on Game Pass on October 13 is a statement: the biggest multiplayer launch of the fall, playable on subscription, one month before Leonida takes over everything.

For players, the advice is simpler. Download Expedition 33 tonight. Play Battlefield 6 next week. And maybe don’t get too attached to anything with an October 15 timestamp - the library giveth, and the library taketh away.
