Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself Hits Hulu Tomorrow — Everything to Know

His first Hulu special, his fifth stand-up hour, and his most personal set yet — Foxx gets real about aging, health, and second acts.

The Short Version

Jamie Foxx is heading back to the stage where it all started. Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself, his first stand-up special for Hulu, premieres tomorrow, October 7 — and the trailer promises his most personal hour yet. Foxx turns the realities of getting older into comedy gold: back pain, lifestyle overhauls, and the generation gap between a 58-year-old legend and the younger crowds (and neighbors) who keep him on his toes.

The special arrives as part of Hulu's Hularious comedy banner, the streamer's growing stand-up slate that already includes hours from Bill Burr, Nikki Glaser, Jim Gaffigan, Sebastian Maniscalco, Kumail Nanjiani, Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood Jr., and more. But Foxx brings something to that lineup none of the others can claim: a performer who survived something genuinely terrifying, fought his way all the way back, and returned to the exact stage where his career began.

The fifth hour

Take Care of Yourself is Foxx's fifth stand-up special across more than three decades — a run that started with Straight From the Foxxhole in 1993, continued through I Might Need Security (2002) and Jamie Foxx Unleashed: Lost, Stolen and Leaked! (2003), and resumed with 2024's Netflix special What Had Happened Was.... That 2024 hour was the one where Foxx finally addressed the serious medical emergency he experienced in 2023, the health scare that sidelined him and had fans genuinely worried.

This new special picks up where that one left off. Even the title borrows from one of Foxx's own punchlines about aging — the kind of self-deprecating wisdom that only lands when you've actually lived it. Comedy has always been the foundation underneath everything else Foxx built: stand-up before In Living Color put him on TV in the early '90s, which led to five seasons of The Jamie Foxx Show, which led to Any Given Sunday and Ali, which led to 2004 — one of the great years in recent Hollywood history, with a Best Actor Oscar for Ray and a Supporting Actor nomination for Collateral in the same year, all while building a music career on the side.

What he's joking about

According to early looks at the special, Foxx gets candid about adjusting his lifestyle in his late fifties — the back pain, the doctor's orders, the indignities of a body that doesn't recover like it used to. He mines hilarious encounters with younger audiences who know him more as a meme than as the guy who once owned Saturday nights, and with neighbors who treat a global superstar like just another guy on the block.

It's the observational humor and performance style audiences have known throughout his career — the impressions, the musicality, the physicality — filtered through a man who's been through something and come out the other side with perspective. The trailer shows him dancing on stage, proof that whatever the last few years took, they didn't take the showman.

A very busy Foxx

The Hulu special is just one piece of a packed slate. Foxx returned as host and executive producer of Beat Shazam alongside his daughter Corinne for the show's eighth season on Fox, which premiered in July. On the film side, he wrapped Fight for '84, a Netflix biographical sports drama directed by Andrés Baiz, in which he plays Master Sergeant Roosevelt Sanders, tasked with training a makeshift U.S. boxing team in the wake of tragedy.

He's also set to lead Deadlocked, a high-stakes action thriller for Amazon MGM Studios directed by Nikhil Bhat (Kill), playing a grieving former Marine serving jury duty whose trial turns into a courthouse hostage crisis. And he remains attached to star as Al Simmons in Blumhouse's long-gestating King Spawn.
