MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2026 — One of television's most punishing crime series just got its biggest stage.
All four seasons of Mayor of Kingstown are now streaming on Netflix, landing on the service Monday as part of its October additions. The series — co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, and starring Jeremy Renner as the fixer at the center of a prison-company town — arrives with its full back catalog intact, just ahead of the show's fifth and final season.
The timing is the story. Mayor of Kingstown has spent four seasons as the Sheridan-verse's overlooked outlier: a show with a movie star in the lead and a premise as bleak as anything on television, but without the cultural footprint of Yellowstone or the watercooler status of Sheridan's other hits. Now, with the final season on the horizon, Netflix hands it something it has never had — the biggest possible audience, all at once, with the complete story available to binge.
The premise is pure Sheridan, stripped of the ranch romance. The series is set in a small Michigan town where the only thriving business is incarceration, and the McLusky family — with Renner's Mike McLusky at the center — operates as the power brokers between the prisons, the police, the criminals, and the politicians. The cast around Renner includes co-creator Hugh Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa, Taylor Handley, and Derek Webster. It is a show about the business of punishment, and it has never flinched from what that means.

Renner's show
Renner's presence gives the Netflix launch its marquee. The actor — an Avenger to a generation of moviegoers — has anchored the series through four seasons, and his Mike McLusky is the rare Sheridan protagonist who isn't a patriarch defending an empire. He's a middleman in a system with no good guys, negotiating truces between factions that would rather see each other dead. It's the most morally compromised leading role of Renner's career, and the performance has been the show's engine from the first episode.

How the Sheridan machine works
The Netflix deal is also a reminder of how the Sheridan machine now operates. Since Yellowstone debuted in 2018 and turned into a phenomenon, Sheridan has built an empire of series — prequels, the Luke Grimes-led Marshals, the Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser sequel Dutton Ranch — while somehow also writing and creating a parallel shelf of non-Yellowstone shows. Mayor of Kingstown has always been the odd one out in that catalog: no Duttons, no frontier, just the prison-industrial complex rendered as a family business.
On Netflix, stripped of the Paramount+ context, the series gets to be judged as what it is — one of the grimmest crime dramas of the streaming era. For viewers coming in cold, the pitch is straightforward: four seasons, a complete arc building toward a final fifth, and a lead performance that has been hiding in plain sight. For the show's existing fans, the Netflix arrival is validation — the series they championed in a quieter corner of streaming is about to be discovered by everyone else, right before it ends.
On Paramount+, the series has been a slow-burn original since its November 14, 2021 premiere — an early pillar of the streamer's scripted lineup. Season 4 ran from October 26 through December 2025, and Paramount renewed the series for a fifth and final season in January 2026, so the Netflix arrival is less a rescue than a victory lap before the planned ending.

A stacked week for Netflix
The Kingstown launch headlines a loaded week for Netflix's October slate. Also arriving Monday: the horror film The Boogeyman, the animated series Super BOOMi, and the kids' series EMoMee Playtime Explorers. Tuesday brings season eight of All American, season three of the Japanese reality series Love Village, and the Mojo Brookzz comedy special I Know You Lying. Wednesday's adds include the Mexican series Inside the Circle, the Italian drama Real Men season two, and the documentary Who Is Martin Mull?, with the Canadian creature series Below landing Thursday.
Then comes Friday, October 9, and the week's other big-ticket item: Animals, the political thriller starring Ben Affleck and Gillian Anderson as a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife, forced to get their hands dirty when their son is kidnapped. It's a strong week for the service, and Kingstown is its prestige play.

The streaming afterlife
The bigger picture is the streaming afterlife of the Sheridan catalog. Shows like Mayor of Kingstown were built for the binge model even when they premiered weekly — dense, serialized, and better in gulps than sips. Netflix's audience has a well-documented habit of resurrecting exactly this kind of series, the ones that did respectable business on their home services but never broke through. If the pattern holds, the fifth and final season won't just be an ending. It'll be a coronation.
Our film desk has everything to know about Affleck's Animals ahead of Friday, CBS's Sunday one-two punch of Tracker and Marshals keeps broadcast TV in the fight, and Russell Crowe's Unabomber is still sitting atop Netflix's movie chart — for now.
