Tuesday, October 6, 2026 — October is the cruelest month for a game backlog. Everyone knows what's coming — you know what's coming — and the instinct is to hoard every dollar for the next two months. But Amazon just dropped a 48-hour Prime Big Deal Days sale (October 6–7, Prime members only) with a lineup that's genuinely worth a look, including a couple of prices I had to double-check because they seemed like errors.
I've gone through the deal roundups, cross-checked prices across multiple trackers, and separated the actual bargains from the usual token $10-off noise. One note up front: these prices are live and they move — some trackers already disagree by a couple of cents on a few items (Star Wars: Zero Company is listed at $47.99 by some and $47.97 by others), so treat every number below as good as of this morning — and verify at checkout.
The no-brainer tier: Final Fantasy VII at silly prices
Let's start with the deal of the sale, because it isn't close. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is $16.99 on PS5 — a 66% discount on a game that delivers well over 100 hours of content. That's not a typo. Multiple trackers confirm it, and the consensus is that this is the standout bargain of the entire promotion, full stop. Square Enix's middle chapter of the FF7 remake trilogy at the price of a movie ticket is the kind of thing that makes backlog feel like a lifestyle choice rather than an accident.
Right behind it: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade at $19.99 on PS5. If you've somehow never played the remake project — or you want the full trilogy arc ready to go — this is the entry point. And Switch 2 owners aren't left out: both games are at their lowest prices yet on Nintendo's platform, with Rebirth at $24.99 and Remake Intergrade at $34.99. One honest warning from the trackers: the $16.99 PS5 copies of Rebirth are deep enough that stock could genuinely become an issue before the sale ends on October 7. If that's the one you want, don't sleep on it.

2026's hits get their first real cuts
This is the section that actually matters for keeping up with the year in games, because several of 2026's best-reviewed releases just got their first meaningful discounts — and the first price cut is usually where the best value lives.
Pragmata at $39.99 (PS5, Xbox, Switch 2) is the headliner here. Capcom's sci-fi standout — one of the year's most talked-about releases — is at an all-time low, and trackers are unanimous that this is one of the more compelling mid-range discounts in the sale. If it was on your wait-for-a-sale list, the sale has arrived.
Resident Evil Requiem at $49.99 (PS5, Xbox, Switch 2) is seeing its first $20 discount since its 2026 launch, having previously only ever dipped into the $50-plus range. For a Capcom horror blockbuster that's still fresh, that's a real cut — not the usual $5 sympathy discount.
Then the two first-timers. Star Wars: Zero Company is down to ~$47.99 — a $12 reduction from list and, per the reporting, its first major discount since launch. It earned a 9/10 from IGN, and first discounts on well-reviewed games tend not to go much deeper for a while. The Blood of Dawnwalker is $59.49, down from $69.99 — also its first significant discount, also a 9/10 from IGN. Ten dollars off doesn't sound dramatic, but on a game that's never been discounted, it's the signal that the price floor is moving.

The rest of the board
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is $59 on PS5 and Xbox — a straight $10 off. Fine, not thrilling; it belongs in the only-if-you-were-buying-it-this-week-anyway bucket. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds at $19.99 on PS5 and Xbox is the opposite: $50 off, a genuine deep cut on a racer that earned a 9 in its IGN review and is, by all accounts, an absolute blast. Twenty bucks for that is easy math.
Trackers also report Pokémon Legends: Z-A at $39.99 on Switch 2 — notable because Nintendo first-party and adjacent titles almost never move after release, so any post-launch cut is worth flagging, with the usual caveat that Pokémon pricing can be regional and stock-limited.
On the hardware side, the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle with three months of Nintendo Switch Online membership works out to roughly $38 in savings versus buying separately — not a true sale item (Nintendo bundles rarely are), but worth knowing if you were already in the market, especially since Switch 2 pricing has crept up this year. Best Buy is countering with Xbox Series X digital bundles and refurbished PS5 options in the $549–$820 range.

The honest fine print
Two things before you spend money. First, the deal math: the trackers' consistent advice this cycle is to prioritize the sub-$20 and sub-$40 standouts — Rebirth at $16.99, Remake Intergrade at $19.99, Pragmata at $39.99, Sonic Racing at $19.99 — because those are the prices least likely to reappear soon. The $10-off items (LEGO Batman, the Blood of Dawnwalker cut) will almost certainly show up again, possibly cheaper, at Black Friday. Buy the deep cuts now; let the shallow ones wait.
Second, the calendar context: we're in the weird pre-holiday window where everyone's watching their wallet for what's next. That's exactly why this sale is interesting — it's positioned as the last real chance to clear the backlog before the end-of-year onslaught. A hundred hours of Rebirth for seventeen dollars is arguably the smartest gaming purchase you can make this month, precisely because everything else is about to get very expensive.
Sale ends October 7. Check the listing before you check out — and if Rebirth is still $16.99 when you read this, stop reading and go.
October's PlayStation Plus lineup is also live today if you'd rather spend nothing at all, and our Gears of War: E-Day launch guide covers the other big October release.
