THE LINEUP — Clear your Tuesday. October 6 is one of the most loaded single release days of the fall, and it doesn't belong to one game — it's a pile-up. Gears of War: E-Day, the biggest Xbox exclusive of the year, launches day-one on Game Pass to some of the strongest reviews the series has ever earned. Star Wars: Galactic Racer brings a roguelite racing twist to the galaxy far, far away. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed lands on Switch 2. And the Kingdom Hearts Collection — every numbered entry in one bundle — arrives on Xbox with a date wrinkle worth knowing about (more on that below). Then the week keeps coming: Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, Echo Weaver on Game Pass, and more. Here's the full launch-day guide.

GEARS OF WAR: E-DAY — The headliner, and it earned the spot. The Coalition's Unreal Engine 5 prequel goes back 14 years before the original Gears of War, putting players on the ground with Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde first erupts onto the surface on Emergence Day — with John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro returning to voice Marcus and Dom. The campaign runs solo, two-player split-screen, or up to four-player online co-op, and multiplayer ships with Horde Siege mode (PvE missions on a large map where your squad competes against other groups) plus a revamped Versus mode (PvP). The review picture is genuinely strong: the heavily followed r/Games review thread listed an OpenCritic average of 88 with 91 percent of critics recommending across 47 reviews, and later snapshots put Metacritic at 87 for Xbox Series X|S. Pure Xbox's 10/10 review called the game "the consequence of a studio that irrefutably gets what makes these games so special," while Neowin's 9.5 review deemed it "easily the best game that The Coalition has ever shipped." Radio Times wrote that the campaign feels like "watching an apocalypse play out in real time," though the same review cautioned that Series S players got "the raw end of the deal" and that Versus can be punishing for newcomers. Tom's Hardware went as far as calling it a new visual high-water mark after testing 43 graphics cards. The business details: full launch October 6 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam ($69.99 standard), day-one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass with cloud access, after early access from October 1 for Premium and Collector's Edition owners. One note for PlayStation players: it is not coming to PS5. If you own an Xbox or a PC, Tuesday is the day.

STAR WARS: GALACTIC RACER — From Secret Mode comes the other big multiplatform launch of the day: a runs-based roguelite racer set in the Outer Rim, with a single-player campaign and multiplayer, landing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It's the kind of genre mashup that either clicks immediately or doesn't — roguelite structure applied to high-speed racing — and it's arriving with almost no competition in its lane. Our launch-day story has the full breakdown of the racer, including what the roguelite runs actually change between attempts. If you've been waiting for a Star Wars game that isn't about Jedi, this is your Tuesday.

KINGDOM HEARTS COLLECTION — This one needs a date asterisk, so here it is, stated plainly. The Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] bundles KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) in one $74.99 package on Xbox Series X|S (also Xbox Play Anywhere), with native versions for Switch 2 and PS5 — the earlier Switch releases were cloud editions, so this is the first time the full saga runs natively on Nintendo hardware, and Switch 2 buyers get an exclusive Long Night Keyblade (other platforms get the Phantom Green Keyblade). Now the date: Xbox's own US store page lists October 6, but the listing also says players who preorder by October 7 get 48 hours of early access — which points to a general launch of October 8, with Tuesday as the early-access unlock for preorders. Outlets including VGC, xokura and g2a all list October 8 across platforms. So the honest read: if you preordered, expect to play Tuesday; everyone else, Thursday. One more wrinkle worth knowing: the collection's key art sparked a two-month fan argument after players spotted odd details — Donald Duck's mismatched fingers, a bent clock tower, irregular designs on Sora's belt and shoes — and accused Square Enix of using generative AI. The publisher denied it to GameSpot, where a Square Enix representative said "these assets were created by our development team without the use of generative AI," blaming human error and adding that updated assets had been implemented. Whatever happened, it's a strange footnote for a bundle whose whole pitch is celebrating a series that just passed 39 million copies sold ahead of its 25th anniversary in March 2027.

THE REST OF TUESDAY — Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed brings the paintbrush-platforming remake to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 6, per VGC's release calendar. On the subscription side, the Game Pass story is simple: E-Day is day-one for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, and Akupara's time-loop Metroidvania Echo Weaver joins Game Pass on October 8 — a strong one-two for subscribers this week. PlayStation Plus members have their own October lineup with F1 25 and Hunt: Showdown among the monthly games, so nobody's subscription is sitting idle.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival key art — the Cenobite horror experience arrives October 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

THE REST OF THE WEEK — Tuesday is the peak, but the week has legs. Thursday October 8 brings Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC — a genuine horror event, not a licensed afterthought — alongside Deck of Haunts and Forever Ago. Friday October 9 adds Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. And October keeps escalating from there: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 lands October 23 and Phantom Blade Zero follows on October 29. Ace Combat 8: Wings of the Veil is already out now if you need something in the air this week, and for the long view, Dan Houser's comments on avoiding GTA 6 talk are the latest signal on the industry's biggest waiting game. October 2026 was always going to be crowded — Tuesday just made it official.
