Lana Therese Condor (born Trần Đồng Lan; May 11, 1997) is an American actress who became a generational romantic lead as Lara Jean Covey in Netflix’s To All the Boys trilogy (2018–2021). She was born in Cần Thơ, Vietnam, and adopted at four months old by American parents Mary Carol (née Haubold) and journalist Bob Condor. Raised in Chicago and later Los Angeles, she trained as a ballet dancer — studying at schools including the Joffrey Ballet — before turning to acting, and studied at Loyola Marymount University.
Condor made her acting debut in the biggest possible sandbox, playing Jubilee (Jubilation Lee) in the superhero film X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). Two years later came the role that defined her: Lara Jean Covey in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018), followed by To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020) and To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021). The trilogy was a genuine phenomenon — among Netflix’s most-watched romantic comedies — and Condor became the face of a new kind of romantic lead: funny, specific, a little guarded, entirely herself, no makeover required.
She has consistently swerved away from being typecast as just the rom-com girl. She played the deadly, complicated Saya Kuroki in the stylish Syfy series Deadly Class (2019), appeared as Koyomi in Alita: Battle Angel (2019), voiced Kaoru in the English dub of Rilakkuma and Kaoru, and has lent her voice to BoJack Horseman. She starred opposite Cole Sprouse in the HBO Max sci-fi romance Moonshot (2022), voiced the title character in DreamWorks’ animated comedy Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023), and guest-starred on Abbott Elementary.
Her recent work has been a deliberate push outside the comfort zone. She headlined the action-thriller Valiant One (2025), about soldiers escaping North Korea — a film she has said meant a great deal to her as someone from a military family — starred in the romantic comedy Worth the Wait, and led The Devil’s Mouth, filmed in Thailand and streaming on Prime Video. In her personal life, Condor married actor and musician Anthony De La Torre — known for playing the young Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales — in an intimate ceremony in Malibu in October 2024, after nearly a decade together. She is also a longtime YouTuber, where her channel has given fans an unusually candid window into her life off screen.
Our read on Lana Condor.
Our read on Lana Condor. Lana Condor understood something early: the girl next door was due for an update. As Lara Jean Covey in the To All the Boys trilogy (2018–2021), she gave the teen rom-com a heroine who felt like someone you actually knew — funny, specific, a little guarded, entirely herself. The films became a genuine phenomenon, and Condor became the face of a new kind of romantic lead: no makeover required, no apology offered.
She’d already made her debut in the biggest possible sandbox, playing Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). Then came the interesting swerves: Saya Kuroki in the stylish, short-lived Deadly Class (2019), Koyomi in Alita: Battle Angel (2019), and a full voice turn as the title character in Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (2023). Comedy guest spots — Abbott Elementary, BoJack Horseman — showed the timing was always there.
The Lara Jean shadow is real — when you define a genre for a generation, the genre tries to keep you — but Condor has been quietly, deliberately dismantling it. Moonshot (2022) put her in sci-fi orbit. Valiant One (2025) was the hard pivot: an action-thriller about soldiers escaping North Korea, physically demanding and tonally a world away from love letters. She has said she wanted to prove to herself that she had more sides than the public had seen — and the performance suggests she was right.
The Devil’s Mouth, filmed in Thailand and now streaming on Prime Video, continues the run of gutsy choices, and co-stars describe her on set as a veteran who holds court — the ease of someone who grew up in the work without being consumed by it. That ease is the through-line: from Joffrey-trained dancer to superhero debut to rom-com phenomenon to action lead, Condor has navigated every phase of young stardom without a public stumble.
Off screen she has kept the same grounded register. Her YouTube channel is famously candid; her relationship with Anthony De La Torre — together since a 2015 Emmys-party meet-cute, engaged in 2022, married in Malibu in October 2024 — has played out with unusual warmth and zero tabloid static. The rom-com heroine grew up, got married, and started hunting bigger game on screen. The update to the girl next door turned out to be this: she was never just next door. She was headed somewhere.
What comes next looks like the most interesting chapter yet: an actress who conquered the rom-com, survived the franchise machine and is now choosing difficulty on purpose. The dancer’s discipline, the comedian’s timing, the action lead’s nerve — Condor has been assembling the full toolkit in public, one swerve at a time. Hollywood spent years trying to decide what box she belonged in. She appears to have decided the answer is none of them.
