Nicholas Dimitri Constantine Galitzine (/ˈɡælɪtsiːn/ GAL-it-seen; born 29 September 1994) is an English actor. After appearing in an episode of Legends in 2015, he had lead roles in the 2016 teen films High…
Nicholas Dimitri Constantine Galitzine was born 29 September 1994 in Hammersmith, West London — and the name alone tells a story. His father, Geoffrey Leo Alexander Galitzine, was born Geoffrey Tier; Nicholas’s grandfather legally changed the family name from Tier to Galitzine in the 1950s, claiming descent from the House of Golitsyn (Galitzine), one of the great princely houses of the Russian Empire whose members scattered after the 1917 Revolution. Nicholas’s mother, Lora Maria Konstantina Papayanni, is Greek, raised partly in the United States. He has described himself as of Russian and Greek descent; his sister Lexi works as an illustrator and interior stylist. It’s the kind of lineage that sounds like it belongs in a costume drama — which, in a sense, is where he ended up.
The original plan had nothing to do with acting. Galitzine attended Dulwich College, competed in athletics at the county level, played football, and trained with the Harlequins Academy with his sights set on professional rugby. A rotator cuff injury ended that future, and it was friends who pushed him to audition for a local theater production — the pivot that changed everything. He chose acting over university, and by 2014 he had his film debut: The Beat Beneath My Feet, playing a teenager who befriends a faded rock star (Luke Perry). An episode of the TNT series Legends followed in 2015, and then 2016 delivered the one-two of leading roles that put him on the map as a teen-drama prospect: High Strung, as a street violinist in New York, and the Irish charmer Handsome Devil, as Conor, the new boy at an all-boys boarding school whose friendship with the school’s only openly gay student becomes the film’s tender center. The latter, in particular, showed critics he could carry emotional material well beyond the pretty-boy frame.
The late 2010s were a building phase: the supernatural thriller The Changeover (2017), the Disney television film The Watcher in the Woods (2017), Pippa Bianco’s harrowing sexual-assault drama Share (2019), and Netflix’s short-lived horror series Chambers (2019). Then came the mainstream gates: The Craft: Legacy (2020) as Timmy Andrews, and — more significantly — Cinderella (2021), opposite Camila Cabello, where he played Prince Robert and contributed vocals to the soundtrack, proving the singing voice was real.
The breakout, when it came, was Netflix’s Purple Hearts (2022). As Luke, a troubled Marine who enters a marriage of convenience with an aspiring musician (Sofia Carson), Galitzine carried a film that became one of the platform’s most-watched originals of the year. It was the role that converted streaming eyeballs into stardom — and it kicked off a run of romantic leads that made him the defining heartthrob of mid-2020s streaming.
Red, White & Royal Blue (2023), Prime Video’s adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s bestselling novel, was the cultural event. As Prince Henry of Wales opposite Taylor Zakhar-Perez’s Alex Claremont-Diaz, Galitzine headlined a queer romantic comedy that became one of the streamer’s biggest film premieres ever, spawned a fiercely devoted fandom, and earned its sequel (Red, White & Royal Wedding). He followed it the same year with the Emma Seligman comedy Bottoms, proving range outside the romance mold, and then The Idea of You (2024) — as Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old boy band star who falls for Anne Hathaway’s 40-year-old single mother — which became Prime Video’s biggest romantic-comedy launch and cemented his status as the internet’s favorite leading man. The historical drama series Mary & George (2024), as George Villiers opposite Julianne Moore, showed the period-drama chops his name had always promised.
The fashion world noticed too: he has been a global menswear ambassador for Fendi since 2023 and a global fragrance ambassador for Emporio Armani since 2024. But the real inflection point arrived with Masters of the Universe (2026), in which he plays Prince Adam — He-Man himself — after months of intensive physical training that transformed the former rugby player back into an athlete. It’s the classic leading-man graduation: from streaming romance to blockbuster franchise anchor. He also joined the all-star cast of The Sheep Detectives (2026) alongside Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson, and led 100 Nights of Hero (2025), with Wings of Freedom, The Mosquito Bowl, and A Matter of Time in the pipeline.
What’s remarkable about Galitzine’s rise is how deliberately it was built. No overnight sensation — a decade of credits, from Irish indies to Disney musicals to Netflix melodrama, before the crown landed. He turned a ruined rugby career into one of the most carefully managed stardoms of his generation: the rare actor equally at home in a royal romance, a queer indie, a boy-band fantasy, and a sword-and-sorcery epic. The name that once sounded like costume-drama fiction now opens blockbusters — and the second act looks even bigger than the first. From Hammersmith to He-Man, the long game is paying off.
Hollywood's current prince — literally, several times over. Nicholas Galitzine played Prince Robert in Cinderella (2021), then Prince Henry in Red, White & Royal Blue (2023), the royal rom-com that turned him into a generational heartthrob overnight. The crown fits. He keeps wearing it.
But the interesting moves are the swerves. Purple Hearts (2022) was a Netflix phenomenon. The Idea of You (2024) cast him as Hayes Campbell, the pop star opposite Anne Hathaway, and he played the fantasy with total sincerity. Mary & George (2024) let him go full scheming Jacobean courtier — proof the pretty face comes with real teeth.
Galitzine is part of the rom-com's great streaming revival, and he's its most bankable new prince. The roles keep getting bigger. So does the charm.
