Where They Stand
Cleveland’s window is now and the front office knows it. After a 52-30 season ended in a sweep by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavaliers locked in their stars — Donovan Mitchell on a four-year max extension and James Harden on a three-year deal — and paid an unprotected 2031 first-rounder to pry Peyton Watson from Denver in a sign-and-trade. EuroLeague veteran Mario Hezonja and rookie Meleek Thomas add to a bench that must step up.
Kenny Atkinson took the entire 21-man camp to Spain’s Embassy complex in Andalusia for the team’s first overseas training camp, with the first practice September 30 and a scrimmage in Málaga before flying home. The preseason is a three-game set — Boston on October 8 at Rocket Arena, then a home-and-home with Orlando — as the Cavs try to prove last spring’s run wasn’t their ceiling.
