Where They Stand
Coming off a 60-22 season — the best record in the Eastern Conference, a contract extension for head coach J.B. Bickerstaff on May 4, and the franchise's first playoff series win since 2008 — Detroit opened camp as the hunted rather than the hunter. The 2026-27 roster adds John Collins, Isaiah Joe and Taurean Prince alongside first-round picks Ebuka Okorie (No. 17) and Ugonna Onyenso (No. 53), while Kevin Huerter re-signed on a three-year, $27 million deal. Gone are Caris LeVert, Marcus Sasser, Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart.
The cloud over camp is Jalen Duren. The All-Star center remains an unsigned restricted free agent and did not report to training camp; Detroit's reported offer is a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million deal, and the qualifying-offer deadline falls Oct. 1. The Pistons waived Gary Harris on Sunday to bring the roster to 14, leaving room for Duren's return. The preseason opens Oct. 5 at home against Phoenix, and Opening Night is Oct. 20 against Boston at Little Caesars Arena — the first game of the NBA season, on NBC and Peacock.

Pistons on standoff with Jalen Duren: 'Negotiation is negotiation'
Duren remains an unsigned restricted free agent as the Oct. 1 qualifying-offer deadline arrives; Detroit's reported offer is a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million deal, and the team waived Gary Harris to keep a roster spot open for his return.
