Where They Stand
Phoenix returns most of a 45-37 playoff team under second-year head coach Jordan Ott, but camp opened with a blow: center Mark Williams is out several months after shoulder surgery, and the Suns signed veteran Duop Reath for depth behind Oso Ighodaro and second-year big Khaman Maluach. The summer's big swing was the trade for Miles Bridges, plus sharpshooter Luke Kennard — last season's league leader in three-point percentage.
Everything hinges on Jalen Green, who played a career-low 32 games in his first Phoenix season with hamstring injuries and became extension-eligible Oct 1. Devin Booker (26.1 ppg, 6.0 apg last season) leads a core that jumped from 27th to 9th in defensive rating a year ago but got swept by Oklahoma City in the first round. The Oct 10 preseason home game vs. Wembanyama's Spurs airs nationally on ESPN2.
