Where They Stand
Toronto took the biggest swing of the summer, reuniting with Kawhi Leonard — the star who delivered the 2019 championship — in a trade that sent Gradey Dick and Brandon Ingram to the Clippers. The Raptors are coming off a 46-36 season and a seven-game first-round loss to Cleveland, and with Leonard joining Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and Jakob Poeltl, the core is built to win now.
Darko Rajaković, in his fourth season, took camp to Quebec City’s Université Laval — the same site the 2019 champions used — before a coast-to-coast preseason that opens October 3 against the Heat in Quebec City and visits Vancouver for the Clippers on October 10. The question hanging over it all: Barrett is in the final year of his deal at $29.6 million with extension talks stalled, making him the obvious trade chip ahead of the February 11 deadline.
