The Ohio Bobcats are the MAC's program of the Frank Solich era — 16 seasons of stability, the bowl wins, and the conference's model citizen. The 2011 MAC East title (the 10-win season) and the 2022 MAC championship (the program's first since 1968) are the peaks: Athens, Ohio, celebrating like the bricks only can.
Peden Stadium's 24,000-strong riverside setting — the oldest MAC venue, the beauty — is the program's soul. The 2024 11-win season (the Cure Bowl win) was the modern encore, the Tim Albin era's arrival. The Bobcats' NFL pipeline is steady.
The Miami (OH) rivalry (the Battle of the Bricks) is the everything: the annual war, all Ohio hatred. The 1968 MAC title (the undefeated season) is the ancient heritage. The green-and-white, the Rufus mascot, the Athens devotion: Ohio football is the MAC's soul.
The Smith Ohio (2025-present) are the MAC's champion in transition: the 2024 11-3 season (the MAC title, the Cure Bowl win — the program's arrival) — the Navarro quarterback's brilliance — was the breakthrough. The 2025 coaching change (the the the exit, the the fresh start) is the present. The 2022 10-4 season (the Arizona Bowl win) is the recent history. Peden Stadium's Athens crowd brings the 2024 memory: the 28,000-strong, the 2024 title, the belief that the Bobcats always fight. The MAC wars define the fall. What Ohio are now is a program in transition — the 2024 title the proof, the 2025 hire the bet, and the 2024 standard the goal. In Athens, the 2024 title is the new heritage, and the Bobcats' era continues.
The 1968 10-1 season (the Tangerine Bowl, the program's best) is the heritage. The 2011 10-4 season (the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl win) is the modern lore. In Athens, the 2024 MAC title the new standard. The 2024 11-3 season (the MAC title, the Cure Bowl win) is the new heritage. The 2025 Smith arrival (the new coach) is the new direction. In Athens, the 2024 title the standard, and the Bobcats' era continues. The 2025 Smith era (the MAC defense) is the present tense.
What defines Ohio is the stability: the Solich standard, the 2022 title, and a program that's always one great class from the MAC crown. In Athens, the Bobcats are the bricks' team — and the 1968 wait is over.
