All Def is the comedy empire Russell Simmons built for the internet generation — a multi-platform digital studio, originally launched as a Def Jam subsidiary, that became the largest Black-owned digital platform in comedy. The mission was clear from day one: take the cultural power of comedy, hip-hop, poetry, and social commentary, and give it a home that the traditional gatekeepers couldn’t touch.

The channel’s signature is the roast. Roast Me — the flagship series where comedians battle in a “you laugh, you lose” elimination format — is All Def’s crown jewel, a perfect internet-native comedy format: high energy, endlessly clippable, and genuinely brutal. Episodes like “Roast Me Elimination” showcase the roster at full power, trading precision-engineered insults with the timing of prizefighters. It’s the kind of show that could only exist online — too raw for TV, too good to stay underground.

But All Def was never just one show. Great Taste and its spinoff Worst Taste turned comedians arguing about food into appointment viewing. Early series like Dr. Reasons, with Spoken Reasons as a deeply unqualified therapist, were among the channel’s first viral hits.
