About this creator
DJ Vekked — Jake Meyer of Ontario, Canada — is turntablism's most decorated competition DJ: seven world championship titles, and the only DJ to win in every category of the DMC World Championships. His 2015 title-winning routine went viral to millions of views, then he took the champion's craft to festival main stages and a YTV cartoon score.
Jake "Vekked" Meyer didn't just win at battle DJing — he conquered every discipline it has. With seven World DJ Championship titles to his name, the Ontario native is the most decorated competition DJ of all time, and the only DJ ever to win titles in every category of the DMC World Championships. In a craft measured in milliseconds of fader work, Vekked set the standard that everyone else chases.
He came from nowhere the hip-hop world was looking. Vekked grew up in Paisley, Ontario — a small village in southwestern Ontario where the radio played country and soft rock and hip-hop barely made the airwaves. He started making music at twelve, beatboxing into a computer microphone and, with limited software and less knowledge, trying to make something out of nothing. For two years he produced house, trance, and techno with a steady kick drum. High school pulled him into b-boying and breakdancing, and that doorway led to hip-hop beats — and then, at sixteen, to the turntables. His teachers were VHS-and-early-internet legends: Invisibl Skratch Piklz, DJ Qbert, Mix Master Mike.
Even the name tells you how he thinks. On his first flight as a child, the pilot explained that planes travel sky-highways called air vectors. The idea — total freedom, but with direction — stuck with him. He shortened Vector to Vect, then respelled it as Vekked, a play on "vexed." Free, but with direction: that's the entire career in one word.
His first battle, the 2005 DMC regional in his hometown, went badly — like it does for almost everyone. What separated Vekked was what came after: relentless practice, a return the next year, and a steady climb. He retained the Canadian DMC crown, then traveled to the DMC World finals, where — in front of a judging panel stacked with legends like Q-bert and Craze — he became the first Canadian ever to win the DMC World Supremacy title, the head-to-head elimination discipline. In the same era he won the first-ever International DJ Association Canadian final, flew to Poland for the IDA World Finals, and came home a two-time world champion: the first North American to win an IDA world title, and the only DJ to win both the DMC and IDA world crowns in the same year.
Then came 2015, the season that made him famous beyond the battle circuit. Vekked was unanimously appointed the 2015 DMC Online World Champion — the first Canadian to earn that title — and then won the DMC World Final outright, becoming the first DJ ever to win both major titles in the same year. His winning routine wove in his own production, and the video exploded: millions of views across YouTube and Facebook, a spot on the front page of Reddit, coverage from mainstream news outlets, and shares and praise from celebrities and superstar DJs. It became one of the most-watched DJ performances of all time — the rare battle routine that broke containment and introduced scratch culture to the mainstream.
He wasn't done. In 2017, Vekked and DJ Brace won the DMC team world title as The Fresherthans, adding a seventh world championship and completing the only full-category sweep in DMC history.
What makes the routines land isn't just speed — it's musicality. Vekked's sets play like compositions: original production under surgical scratch patterns, structure and dynamics where other battlers offer only technique. That producer's ear is also why his next chapter made sense. After conquering the battle circuit, he pivoted to scoring the children's TV show "The 3 Amigonauts," which debuted on YTV, Canada's leading cartoon network, in 2017 — an original score of more than fifty compositions produced, mixed, and scratched by Vekked himself.
On the live side, he's played festival main stages across the planet: Shambhala and Fozzyfest in British Columbia, Under Pressure in Montreal, Stress Free Festival in New York, Tribal Gathering in Panama City, Kame World in Auckland, and two coast-to-coast tours across Canada — followed in 2018 by a 27-date solo North American tour from Chicago to Texas to Seattle. He also built tablist.ca, a hub for the Canadian turntablist scene, and shares the craft through tutorials and workshops.
Previously covers Vekked because competitive turntablism needed its ambassador, and he became one — not by watering the art down, but by being so undeniable at it that the internet couldn't look away. Seven times the best on the planet. The cuts, as the saying goes, don't lie.
