About Xaryu
Josh “Xaryu” Lujan is World of Warcraft's definitive Frost Mage — a multi-time Rank One arena competitor, educator, and fitness-focused streamer who became one of the MMO's most respected voices.
About this creator
Josh “Xaryu” Lujan turned elite Frost Mage arena play into a two-decade institution: multiple Rank One titles, stints with Method and TSM, a Hardcore Classic renaissance with OnlyFangs, and a teaching style that made him World of Warcraft's professor. The full story of the arena's calmest killer — and the MMO's conscience.
Josh Lujan never set out to be World of Warcraft's professor — he just wanted to win arenas. Streaming as Xaryu, the Tucson, Arizona native became the game's definitive Frost Mage: a multi-time Rank One competitor whose precision, game sense, and teaching instincts made him one of the most respected PvP players of his generation — and one of the most quietly influential voices in the future of the MMO itself.
The origin story starts in 2004, when a twelve-year-old Lujan rolled a Holy Paladin named “Girlfeind” in vanilla World of Warcraft and never really logged out. When The Burning Crusade arrived, he migrated from battlegrounds to the arena, fell in love with the format, and in season two rerolled as a Frost Mage — the class that would define his career. He stepped back for high school and real life during Wrath of the Lich King, then returned in earnest for Cataclysm's ninth season at sixteen, sharper and more competitive than ever.
Streaming started in September 2012, during season twelve, just before he earned his first Gladiator title. For a while it was a hobby with fifty viewers. Then season fourteen hit, the wins piled up, and his average viewership exploded from around fifty to roughly two thousand. The formula was deceptively simple: play at the absolute highest level, and explain everything you're doing while you do it. Xaryu's streams became a masterclass — positioning, cooldown trading, cross-control, the invisible geometry of the arena — delivered in real time by one of the few people alive who could both execute it and articulate it.
The industry noticed. In March 2017 he joined Method, the storied esports organization, as a content creator, spending three years under its banner as “Method Xaryu.” Then in February 2020, TSM — entering World of Warcraft for the very first time — signed him as its inaugural WoW representative, at a point when he was already broadcasting to more than 225,000 Twitch followers. The résumé kept growing: multiple Rank One titles, a documented 100–0 run in 2v2, tournament appearances. His Mage wasn't just good; it was a reference implementation of the class.
What separates Xaryu from a thousand other high-rated players is the pedagogy. His YouTube channel became a library of mage guides and arena breakdowns, the kind of content that turned casual viewers into competitors. He authored fitness and nutrition guides — including the XARYU Fitness & Nutrition Guide 2.0 — and even cookbooks, folding bodybuilding, health, and mindset into the stream's identity long before “gamer wellness” was a buzzword. A 2016 graduate of Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in Business CIS, he treated streaming like a business and his body like an athlete's instrument.
The second act has been Classic. As World of Warcraft Classic — and then Hardcore Classic — captured the culture, Xaryu became one of its leading voices: a streamer whose Hardcore runs turned permadeath into theater, and whose advocacy for preserving Classic's core vision — player identity, meaningful friction, social interdependence over convenience-driven design — made him a philosopher of the genre. In 2024 he joined OnlyFangs, the streamer-driven Hardcore guild, bringing his elite Mage play and survival discipline to the most unforgiving version of the game. His arguments — that arena doesn't belong in Classic Plus, that dueling and social PvP and server-wide living-world events are what make the game sing — have shaped the community's design debates.
The viral moments found him, too. His Classic-era battleground battles — including a legendary Alterac Valley run-in with Asmongold and McConnell that sent the latter into a now-famous rage — became some of the most-watched WoW clips of their era. Xaryu never chased the drama; the game kept delivering it to his doorstep, and his composure in the middle of it became part of the brand.
There's a signature calm to the Xaryu stream. Where other top players tilt, he analyzes. Where others clip-farm, he teaches. The “chill vibes” tag that follows him through highlight compilations is real — it's the composure of someone who has been solving the same impossible game for twenty years and still finds it interesting.
What endures is the template he set: the competitor-as-educator. A generation of WoW streamers now teaches by default — narrating decisions, publishing guides, treating the audience as students — because Xaryu proved the model works. By 2026 his Twitch channel sits near 845,000 followers, with well over a hundred hours streamed in a typical month — 142.6 hours in September 2026 alone, per TwitchTracker. He has outlasted metas, expansions, organizations, and entire platforms' worth of trends. In a genre that burns through talent, Xaryu is the constant — the arena artist who became the MMO's conscience.
