About this creator
Nick Kostos and Ken Barkley turned a 3–7 p.m. ET betting show into the No. 1 sports betting program in America — the BetQL flagship now simulcast on Stadium and SiriusXM. The full story of wagertainment: the picks, the dynamic, and the accountability that built the audience.
You Better You Bet is the sharpest four hours in sports betting media. The daily show from Audacy's BetQL Network, hosted by Nick Kostos and Ken Barkley, has become the flagship of the “wagertainment” era: real handicapping, real accountability, and real entertainment, delivered every weekday to an audience that bets — and to an audience that just likes watching people who bet think out loud.
The host is the engine. Nick Kostos has been covering sports gambling for well over a decade — a run that started, by his own telling, as a happy accident. He began his media career as a freshman at Fordham in 2001 working for WFUV, didn't start wagering on games until 2004, and didn't consider betting content until he was covering the NFL for Bleacher Report in 2013, when he was also producing for SiriusXM NFL Radio. The NFL media landscape was crowded; betting was his differentiator. Stints followed at Odds Shark, CBS Interactive, and Sports Illustrated — a decade-plus of gambling coverage from an era when most of sports media wouldn't touch the subject.
“Wagertainment” is Kostos's coinage and the show's operating system: the combination of entertaining and smart sports betting content, built to give both the seasoned bettor and the novice a seat at the table. The philosophy is that picks without personality don't travel, and personality without accountability doesn't last. Every ticket gets graded. Wins get celebrated; losses get owned on air.
The co-host is the counterweight. Ken Barkley — Kostos's permanent co-host — is the grounded to Kostos's off-the-wall, the rational to his emotional. Ask the audience what makes the show work and the answer is the dynamic: two bettors who actually bet, arguing it out in real time. Joe Ostrowski, the third original voice, now anchors BetQL Daily on the same network. The first executive producer, Eli Hershkovich, and engineer Tyler Morales were bettors too — authenticity was hired in from day one.
The network story: You Better You Bet is the flagship of the BetQL Network, Audacy's sports-betting network, which launched in January 2021 with the show holding down afternoon drive. It now airs weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. ET across the Audacy and BetQL apps, Twitch, and YouTube — and its reach keeps expanding. In early 2024 Audacy signed distribution deals putting the show on Stadium (4–6 p.m. ET weekdays, carried across YouTube TV, the Roku Channel, Fubo, Amazon, Samsung TV Plus, Tubi, and more) and SiriusXM (Sirius 217, XM 205, and the app, 3–7 p.m. ET). Terrestrial radio followed: the program now airs on 48 stations in 44 markets, from Chicago and Los Angeles to Phoenix's 1580 & 99.3 The Fanatic. Audacy bills it as the No. 1 sports betting podcast in the U.S.
The tentpoles: “Countdown to Tip-Off,” the annual March Madness betting series, airs across 90 Audacy stations every March and April — four episodes of bracket-season handicapping featuring talent from across Audacy's sports portfolio. Super Bowl week is the other big one: Kostos has hosted the show from Las Vegas ahead of the big game, the spiritual home of the audience.
The format is the product. Every game is Game 7 — no hot-take nonsense, as the show's own intro puts it. The daily grind covers the full betting week: NFL Sundays, NBA and NHL slates, MLB summers, college football Saturdays, golf majors, the props markets. The show is presented by BetMGM, and the segments move between picks, line movement, matchup deep-dives, and the kind of bankroll-discipline talk that separates the show from tout-industry noise.
The show is built for the clip era. The YouTube and Twitch simulcasts, the social cutdowns, the viral pick segments — You Better You Bet's best moments travel, which is how an afternoon drive-time show becomes a national conversation. The intro rituals and catchphrases are engineered for the feed without feeling engineered.
Why it works: in a gold-rush era for betting content — every sportsbook with a media arm, every ex-jock with a picks show — the edge is that the hosts are bettors in the honorable sense: they bet what they say, they say what they bet, and the audience can smell the difference. Kostos put it cleanly in a 2024 interview: “We connected with the audience immediately because it was obvious to them that we were all just like them. We bet. We win. We lose. And we love it.”
Why it matters: You Better You Bet is the mainstreaming of sports betting media — the show that proved wagering content could anchor a national radio network, a TV simulcast, and a satellite channel at the same time. As legal betting keeps spreading state by state, the program is positioned as the daily briefing for the wagering generation: the picks, the sweat, and the honesty, every weekday.
