BigXthaPlug is spending the last stretch of 2026 the way a headliner should: with a mystery. His fourth studio album, BETTER OVER TIME, arrives October 30, and the announcement followed a week of teasers that were louder than most press releases. His face quietly disappeared from the artwork of his previous albums — Amar, TAKE CARE, and I Hope You're Happy — across streaming platforms. Then came a cinematic teaser short film on Instagram tracing his journey from childhood and young adulthood to sold-out crowds. When a rapper erases his own face from his catalog, you pay attention to what he puts up next.

The first official statement from the new era is “LITE,” released September 18 and featuring Atlanta's Belly Gang Kushington — a member of the 2026 XXL Freshman class whose breakout “Friend Do” was built for Atlanta strip clubs rather than country radio. The record is a deliberate reset: it drops the acoustic guitars that shaped much of I Hope You're Happy and sets BigX back over the bass-heavy Southern production where his voice first became recognizable. The video, which BigX co-directed with longtime collaborator Jerry Morka, travels from a smoky nightclub to a late-night gas station meetup with friends. After a crossover that size, BigX had every commercial reason to double down on country with a sequel stacked with Nashville features. He chose to open the new campaign beside a Southern street rapper instead. That choice is the whole thesis of the album title.

BigXthaPlug — more than 10.7 billion global streams in, BETTER OVER TIME is his fourth studio album.

To understand why “better over time” lands as a mission statement and not a platitude, run the tape. Born Xavier Landum in Dallas, BigXthaPlug broke through with Amar in 2023 — a debut that announced a baritone that sounded like it was carved out of oak and a pen that wrote about the streets with unusual patience. TAKE CARE followed in 2024, consolidating him as Texas rap's most reliable album artist and earning him a spot on the 2024 XXL Freshman cover. Then came the swerve: I Hope You're Happy, released August 2025, a full-hearted country-rap record that debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and Top 3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, produced multiple Billboard Hot 100 entries — including a No. 4 placement — and became the only album to chart on both the Country and Hip-Hop charts. His lead single “All the Way” with Bailey Zimmerman opened inside the Hot 100's top five that spring. The country wasn't a costume on his music — it was a second language he actually speaks, the church and the juke joint sharing a parking lot, the way the South actually lives.

The numbers behind this rollout are big-boy numbers: more than 10.7 billion global streams, multiple No. 1 records, and a Rolling Stone Future of Music cover photographed by David LaChapelle — the kind of cultural credential that says the industry sees him as bigger than rap. His expanding orbit shows up everywhere in the past year, including a spot among the long guest list on Trippie Redd's 2026 album NDA. And before the country records took hold, he was already playing bigger rooms as a supporting act on Lil Baby's WHAM World Tour, which is how you build an arena headliner the old-fashioned way — one converted crowd at a time.

Dallas has been producing stars for decades, but it doesn't always get its due as a hip-hop capital. BigXthaPlug is fixing that one era at a time — and the timing of this announcement is worth noting. It lands in the same late-October corridor as some of the biggest releases in hip-hop's busiest fall, including Anderson .Paak and Cordae's “Heavy Is the Crown”. October 30 is a statement slot: the last big Friday before the holiday freeze, when the albums that want to own year-end lists all show up at once. BigX isn't ducking the competition. He's joining it.

BETTER OVER TIME is a title that can describe a commercial climb, a sharpened pen, or the slower remaking of a life — and the charts and the catalog already account for the first two. Most rappers on their fourth album are either running it back or running out. BigX is neither. He's expanding: back to the bass-heavy Southern production that made him, forward into whatever the next era sounds like, with a Dallas baritone that keeps getting harder to imitate. October 30, we'll hear what the expansion sounds like.
