Nobody went home. That was the headline at the end of Dancing with the Stars' Dedication Night on Tuesday, October 20, when hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough told the 10 remaining couples that every one of them was safe. According to reporting from Just Jared and Page Six, the twist comes with a catch that raises the stakes considerably: the judges' scores and the audience votes from Dedication Night carry over and combine with next week's results. Nothing from Tuesday was wasted — it just was not final.
The reprieve also sets up a much harsher landing. Next Tuesday, October 27, the show shifts into Horror Movie Night, and Page Six and Primetimer report that the Halloween-week episode ends with a double elimination. Two couples will go home on the combined weight of two weeks of dancing, which means the couples sitting at the bottom of Tuesday's leaderboard are in genuine danger — and the couples at the top bought themselves real insurance.
We previewed the dedications, the returning guest judge and what each couple needed from the night in our Dedication Night preview. Here is how the night actually shook out.
Amber Glenn Owns the Leaderboard
Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov finished the night on top with 38 of a possible 40, per the leaderboards published by Just Jared and Filmibeat — the strongest mark of the evening from a four-judge panel that included returning guest judge Kym Johnson alongside regulars Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli. For Glenn, an elite figure skater whose athleticism has been obvious all season, Dedication Night was the performance where power and polish finally landed in the same routine, and the panel rewarded it accordingly.
Close behind, two couples shared second place at 37: Jenna Dewan with Alan Bersten, and Paralympic champion Ezra Frech with Daniella Karagach. Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa and Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson followed at 36, with Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas at 35. The bottom of the board is crowded — four couples tied at 32: Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik, Jackson Olson and Emma Slater, Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold, and Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess. With a double elimination looming and two weeks of votes combining, that four-way tie at the bottom is the danger zone.
Dedication Night Leaderboard
- Amber Glenn & Pasha Pashkov — 38
- Jenna Dewan & Alan Bersten — 37
- Ezra Frech & Daniella Karagach — 37
- Julia Stiles & Ezra Sosa — 36
- Harry Shum Jr. & Jenna Johnson — 36
- Maura Higgins & Mark Ballas — 35
- Tatyana Ali & Jan Ravnik — 32
- Jackson Olson & Emma Slater — 32
- Connor Wood & Rylee Arnold — 32
- Tyler Cameron & Sharna Burgess — 32
A Baby Reveal on the Ballroom Floor
The night's biggest moment had nothing to do with scores. Tyler Cameron danced a contemporary with Sharna Burgess set to Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers," dedicated to his late mother, Andrea. According to USA TODAY's recap, the routine ended with a reveal: Cameron and his fiancée, Tate Madden, are expecting their first child — a girl — announced with a burst of pink confetti on the ballroom floor as the judges looked on, visibly moved.
It was the kind of moment Dedication Night exists to produce, except nobody had scripted this one into the season's expectations. A dance honoring a mother who is gone became, in its final seconds, an announcement about a daughter who is coming. The judges awarded the routine 32 of 40, tying Cameron and Burgess at the bottom of the leaderboard — but on a night with no elimination, the score was the least memorable part of his evening, and the carry-over format means his fate now rests on next week's dance and the combined vote.
Julia Stiles Brings the '10 Things' Family Back Together
Julia Stiles dedicated her contemporary to the late Heath Ledger, her co-star in 10 Things I Hate About You, and the dedication did not end when the music stopped. TV Insider reported that Stiles closed the night in an on-floor reunion with her castmates from the 1999 film — Gabrielle Union, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan and Susan May Pratt — gathered in the ballroom to honor Ledger's memory with her.
Stiles and Ezra Sosa scored 36, a strong mark that keeps them comfortably in the season's upper half. But like Cameron's reveal, the number was secondary. Dedication Night asks celebrities to dance about the people who shaped them; Stiles answered by filling the floor with the people who were actually there at the start of her career, standing together for the friend who was not.
Ezra Frech Dances With His Dedication
Ezra Frech took the week's concept literally. His contemporary, danced to "Bloodline" and dedicated to his mother, Bahar Soomekh, did not just honor her from across the floor — Page Six reported that Soomekh joined the routine itself. Frech and Daniella Karagach earned 37, tying for second on the night, and the performance reinforced what has been true all season: Frech is not a sentimental underdog story. He is a contender with the scores to prove it.
That is the pattern Dedication Night kept repeating. The emotion was real, but so was the dancing. Glenn's 38, the pair of 37s behind her, and a mid-board packed within three points of each other describe a season that is genuinely competitive — which is exactly what makes next week's format so unforgiving.
What Carries Over — and What It Means
Because no one was eliminated, Tuesday's scores and votes roll directly into Horror Movie Night. Practically, that does three things. It protects the top: Glenn and Pashkov's 38 gives them a cushion no single bad Halloween dance is likely to erase. It squeezes the middle: the couples at 35 and 36 are one strong week from safety and one weak week from the bottom two. And it endangers the tie at 32, where four couples start next week needing both a score jump and a vote surge, with two eliminations waiting at the end of the night.
Horror Movie Night airs Tuesday, October 27 on ABC. If Dedication Night was the season's heart, next week is its knife — and for the first time all season, two couples will feel it on the same night. For more of the week's television, browse the latest Previously news and our TV coverage.
