David Moyes has now taken charge of Everton 592 times — as many as Harry Catterick, the most in the club’s history. For 52 minutes on Friday night, his record night was going wrong.
Frank Lampard brought Coventry City to Hill Dickinson Stadium and had them in front seven minutes after the break, Yann Gboho twisting inside the area and poking home the opener past Jordan Pickford in front of a crowd of 52,395. Lampard managed Everton between Moyes’ two spells in charge, and his side were the better team for long stretches — Moyes admitted afterward that Everton’s display was not entirely convincing.
Five minutes of Barry
Then Thierno Barry took the game away. On 56 minutes he rose at the back post to head in Vitaliy Mykolenko’s cross. Five minutes later he bundled the second in from close range — and when Coventry’s players appealed for a handball, VAR checked the goal and let it stand.

Barry had a hand in the third as well. With nine minutes left he slid the pass through for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who fired past Carl Rushworth from a tight angle at the near post to finish the comeback.

Only Haaland has scored more
The brace took Barry to 10 goals for the season in 13 appearances — already more than he scored in the whole of last season — and among Premier League players, only Erling Haaland has more in all competitions. “He’s missed quite a few chances, but tonight he got important goals for us,” Moyes said. “He’s becoming an important piece for us, and he’s got 10 goals for us, which is really good.”

Fifth, above Liverpool
The win lifts Everton to fifth in the Premier League on 16 points, one ahead of Liverpool, who play their game in hand at Crystal Palace on Sunday. It is three straight wins in all competitions heading into the international break. Coventry, back in the Premier League this season after a 25-year absence, stay 16th on nine points.

So the record night ends the way Moyes would have ordered it: 592 matches in charge, level with Catterick at the top of Everton’s history, and a win attached. Every stat, both lineups and the live table from Hill Dickinson Stadium are in the Game Center.
