For one night only, the HEAT trade Miami for Vice City.
That is the Miami Heat's own line, and for once the marketing undersells it. On Wednesday, November 18, the Heat will host the Milwaukee Bucks at Kaseya Center (7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) as "A Night in Vice City" — an official partnership with Rockstar Games, announced by the team on October 2, built around the release of Grand Theft Auto VI the following night.
The Heat will not just wear a themed jersey and call it a collaboration. They will take the court as Vice City — a different name for the night — on special hardwood built for this one game, in what the team calls a completely reimagined uniform. The uniform stayed classified until November 6, when the Heat revealed the Nike × Cactus Jack "Vice City" set: black jerseys with an inverted pink swoosh, a "VI" palm-tree patch on the chest, pink stars across the jock tag — and two versions, an on-court jersey reading HEAT over Bam Adebayo's No. 13 and a swingman in "Vice City" script carrying Giannis Antetokounmpo's No. 7. The uniforms go on sale November 18, in limited quantities, at the game itself. A Court Culture Vice City merchandise collection — T-shirts, hoodies and hats — is already on sale.

The takeover started early. On October 1, the Heat lit a giant neon "Welcome to Vice City" sign on the roof of Kaseya Center, pink letters over downtown Miami — a Miami-Dade County deal reported at about $975,000. By late October, the fiction had moved inside the building: arena concessions were serving as Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell, the fast-food chains from the Grand Theft Auto universe, complete with themed branding and staff uniforms. The arena is not advertising Vice City. It is becoming it, piece by piece, for six weeks.

The game inside the game
None of this would land the same way without the opponent — and the opponent is perfect.
Giannis Antetokounmpo joined the Heat this summer in a mega-trade that sent Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakučionis to Milwaukee. The No. 15 pick in the 2013 draft had spent his entire career with the Bucks: 13 seasons, two league MVPs, ten All-Star selections, and the 2020-21 championship, where he was named Finals MVP. Milwaukee drafted him, raised him, and hung a banner with him.
November 18 is the first time he has ever faced them.
USA TODAY's announcement coverage made the pairing explicit: the Vice City event "will serve as the backdrop" for the game, and "it also will be the first time Giannis Antetokounmpo faces off against the team that drafted him." Antetokounmpo has already admitted, during Heat training camp, that facing Milwaukee will be emotional — he told reporters he tried telling his wife it was just another game, and she saw right through it. The trade cuts both ways, too: for Herro, Ware, Jaquez Jr. and Jakučionis, November 18 is their first game back in Miami as visitors.

So the loudest regular-season stage the Heat could build — a nationally televised arena turned into a video game — is also the night their new franchise player meets his old life. His first trip back to Milwaukee comes later, on January 28. This one is at home, in neon.
Why the timing is the whole story
Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19 — the next night — for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional Florida, and built around a return to modern-day Vice City, its Miami. Pre-orders opened June 25; preload begins November 12. The previous game in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, came out in 2013. Thirteen years of waiting end the night after this game tips off.

The Heat have been dressing for this city longer than anyone. Their Vice-themed City Edition jerseys, worn from 2018 to 2021 in pink and blue neon, became a phenomenon — per Andscape, the first "Vice" jersey was purchased more than the inaugural City Edition jerseys of every other NBA team combined. But those jerseys were an homage to a television show and a skyline. This is different: this time the fictional city itself is coming home, with Rockstar Games' name on the announcement, five hours before the game that carries it goes on sale.
That is why this is a Culture story and not a schedule note. A basketball team is lending its name, its court, its uniforms and its building to a work of fiction for one night — and the fiction's biggest star turn happens to coincide with a genuine grudge match that needed no promotion at all.
