The Short Version

  • John Mayer announced a 2027 Sphere residency on Oct. 7; within days the run grew from 6 shows to 18: April 8–June 5, 2027.
  • Each night is three shows in one: a solo set (acoustic, piano, electric), a full-band set, and a John Mayer Trio reunion with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino.
  • Tickets from $129. Artist presale ran Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. PT; the general sale is Friday at 10 a.m. PT on Ticketmaster.

John Mayer announced his 2027 Sphere residency on October 7, per Consequence — and the market answered so fast that the run tripled before the week was out. The initial six April shows became eighteen dates stretching from April 8 through June 5, 2027, after Mayer added twelve new dates announced Wednesday by the venue, per QNC News. When a residency triples in days, the venue isn't guessing about demand anymore.

The dates, confirmed by Consequence's listing: April 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 28, 30; May 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15; and June 2, 4, 5. All at Sphere, all 2027. The Wednesday-added batch — April 28 and 30, May 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14 and 15, and June 2, 4 and 5 — was announced by the venue itself on X via @SphereVegas, and artist presale registration for the new dates opened immediately, with fans who had already registered getting access to all dates at once.

But the dates are the least interesting part of this announcement. The format is the story. Every night is a three-part show, per QNC News: Mayer performs solo — mostly acoustic guitar, with piano and electric guitar in the mix — then with a full band, and then with the John Mayer Trio, reuniting with drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino for the blues-driven lineup that defined his acclaimed 2006 era. It's essentially three concerts with one ticket, and the Trio portion is the thing longtime fans have been waiting on for the better part of two decades.

That history matters. This isn't Mayer's first time at Sphere — he played 48 shows there with Dead & Company across 2024 and 2025, per both Consequence and QNC News. So he knows exactly what the venue does to a performance: the 160,000-square-foot LED interior, the haptic seats, the 167,000 speakers. He also knows what it does to a guitarist who built his reputation on touch and tone. The solo acoustic set inside that building is the set that will define whether this residency becomes the kind of run people fly in for — or just another well-produced stop.

The on-sale details, per Consequence: VIP packages went first on September 30, the artist presale began Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT through johnmayer.com, and the general sale is Friday at 10 a.m. PT on Ticketmaster, with tickets starting at $129. And here's the part that rarely survives the press-release shuffle: $1 from every ticket sold goes to Mayer's Back To You Fund, which supports charities including those aiding at-risk youth and people facing homelessness, per QNC News. Separately, seats for each show will be auctioned through Charity Auctions Today, with 100% of proceeds going to the Heart and Armor Foundation — Mayer's own veterans' health organization, which he founded in 2012.

Mayer lands in a Sphere residency calendar that's only getting more aggressive. The venue's year is stacking up — as our morning roundup captured, October is one of the busiest months on the Strip. the Metallica residency is already on the books, and the Backstreet Boys return for New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, Jan. 1–2) — 60 Sphere shows total for the group, whose "Into The Millennium" opened July 2025 and made them the first pop act to headline the venue, per Casino.org's Vegas music coverage. Mayer's 18 shows put him in rare company for a solo guitar-driven artist at a venue that was built for spectacle and is increasingly the place where legacy acts come to make their definitive statement.

The practical question for Vegas visitors is the one the Sphere calendar always raises: which set do you actually fly in for? The honest answer is the Trio. Jordan and Palladino are two of the most in-demand rhythm players alive — Jordan is the Rolling Stones' drummer when Charlie Watts' chair needed filling, and Palladino has anchored records for everyone from D'Angelo to The Who. A Trio set inside the Sphere, with that much headroom and that much visual scale behind it, is the kind of thing that ends up on year-end "best shows" lists. The solo set is the prestige play; the full-band set is the hits; the Trio set is the reason guitar players will be booking flights.

One more thing worth noting: eighteen shows over two months is a real residency commitment, not a weekend swing. It's the model that's working at Sphere now — long runs that let locals come twice and tourists plan around specific dates. With the general sale Friday morning and the $129 floor, the first wave of April dates will move fast. If the presale behavior is any indication, June will be the sweet spot for anyone who wants decent seats without the opening-night markup.
