Karol G Broke TikTok Live’s Record, Then Took the Whole Top Three

Her Mexico City album party drew more simultaneous viewers than any TikTok Live premiere in history — in the same week she became the first artist ever to hold Latin Airplay’s whole top three with songs from a single album. Tonight, the stadium leg starts in Monterrey.

There were 2,000 people in the room at Quarry Studios in Mexico City on Wednesday night. The real crowd was somewhere else entirely — on phones, in bedrooms and break rooms and the backs of buses all over the world, watching Karol G turn an album party into the biggest livestream premiere TikTok has ever had.

The hour-long set was built around her album No Me Arrepiento De Sentir Tanto — the title translates to “I don’t regret feeling so much” — and by the time it ended, TikTok’s own count had the show at 4.8 million total entries into the Live room and 3.6 million unique viewers, with 87 million impressions worldwide. The number that matters most is the one the platform does not hand out often: the performance broke TikTok’s record for simultaneous viewers of a livestream premiere, according to TikTok’s figures as reported by Music Ally and Billboard. Those are the platform’s numbers, and every outlet carrying them is carrying TikTok’s count — but a record is a record, and this one has exactly one owner.

One hour, one album, no wasted motion

The show itself mixed live performances with album tracks, JamBase reported — a celebration rather than a formal concert, and all the looser for it. Karol performed “BbY WOW” live and sat down for piano versions of “Eclipse” and “Final Feliz.” The guest list explained where this album lives: Greg González of Cigarettes After Sex, whose whisper-quiet band is about as far from reggaetón as music gets; La Obsesión; and, to close the night, house DJ John Summit, who stepped behind the decks to debut his remix of “BbY WOW” — perreo meeting house music while bubbles fell over the crowd.

None of this scale is an accident. Karol G carries 57.4 million followers on TikTok alone, Music Ally noted, and her 2024 hit “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” has soundtracked more than 1.7 million videos on the platform. She is not a star borrowing TikTok’s audience for a night. On that app, she is one of the landlords.

The chart did something it has never done

Two days before the livestream, Billboard delivered the week’s other headline. On the Latin Airplay chart dated November 7, Karol G holds Nos. 1, 2 and 3 at the same time: “BbY WOW,” with Judeline and rusowsky, back at No. 1 for a third week; “Ahí,” with Drake, at No. 2; and “Alguien Que Te Amaba” climbing to a new peak at No. 3. All three songs come from the same album. In the chart’s 32-year history, no artist had ever held the whole top three with tracks from one album, Billboard reported.

Only two other acts have ever swept the top three — Bad Bunny in August 2019 and J Balvin that September — and both needed songs scattered across different projects, features and other people’s albums to do it. Karol is the third act, the only woman, and the first to do it off a single tracklist. The radio numbers underneath the sweep are not close, either: “BbY WOW” generated 11.1 million audience impressions in the United States during the tracking week, up 29 percent, according to Luminate, with “Ahí” at 8.3 million and “Alguien Que Te Amaba” up 31 percent to 7.6 million. “BbY WOW” is also sitting on an 11th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

“It brings me so much happiness to see how music continues to connect with people in this way,” Karol told Billboard. “Having three songs occupy the top three spots on the Latin Airplay chart is something that thrills me and fills me with pride — but above all, it makes me feel deeply grateful.” Jose Cedeño, executive vice president and general manager of Interscope Capitol Miami, gave Billboard the label’s read: “Karol is in a special moment where different songs are connecting with different audiences at the same time.”

An album announced nine days before it landed

The engine under both records arrived with almost no warning. Karol announced No Me Arrepiento De Sentir Tanto on July 29 and released it on August 7 — nine days later — through Bichota, Interscope and Capitol. It debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 50,000 first-week units, dethroning Bad Bunny on the Latin chart in the process, and it has now spent 11 weeks on top of Top Latin Albums. A surprise-dropped album is supposed to be a moment. Three months later, this one is still the moment.

Tonight, the stadiums

Which is why tonight matters. The Latin American leg of her Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour opens Friday night at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey — three stadium nights there, November 6, 7 and 8, then three more at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros on November 13, 14 and 15, per the tour’s official listings. The run’s North American leg already sold more than a million tickets before it closed in Dallas on October 15. Wednesday’s record and Monday’s chart were not a victory lap. They were the starting gun.

So take stock of one week in the life of a single album: a livestream-premiere record that may stand for years, a chart first that took 32 years to happen, and a stadium leg opening while both are still warm. Artists have big weeks. Almost nobody has this one.
