Las Vegas's Fall Dining Wave: A Chinatown Tasting Room, a Downtown Classic Returns, and Lunch Gets Bigger on the Strip

Lilli brings chef Tyler Vorce's $98 four-course and $188 tasting menus to Chinatown, Siegel's 1941 reopens at El Cortez with its prime rib lunch special back, Bojangles opens on the LINQ Promenade with the chain's first full-service bar, and BOA Steakhouse at The Venetian expands to daily lunch.

The Short Version

Las Vegas eats in waves, and this fall the wave is breaking in every direction at once. A chef-driven tasting room has opened in Chinatown. A downtown classic with a name straight out of the city's origin story is serving lunch again after a remodel. A Southern chicken chain has opened on the Las Vegas Strip with something no other location in the country has — a full-service bar. And on the Strip itself, lunch — the meal Las Vegas fine dining used to skip — is getting bigger.

Taken together, the openings tell a useful story about where the city is right now: serious cooking off the Strip, history being reinvested in downtown, and Strip dining rooms deciding that the midday hours are worth fighting for. Here is the full rundown, with the hours, prices and details that matter if you are planning to go.

Lilli: a tasting room grows up in Chinatown

The most ambitious opening of the season is also one of the smallest in footprint. Lilli, by chef Tyler Vorce, has opened at 3616 Spring Mountain Road, Suite 101, in the Green Leaf Lotus complex in Chinatown, east of Valley View Boulevard. Vorce trained at the French Laundry, and he started Lilli as a pop-up at Durango Social Club before making the move to a permanent room.

The format is focused. Lilli offers a four-course menu for $98 and an eight-course tasting menu for $188, built on seasonal cooking that uses French technique and leans Mediterranean. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. A separate lounge offers à la carte options, which gives the room two speeds: the full tasting experience in the dining room, where reservations are recommended, and a more casual lounge and bar that takes walk-ins.

For Chinatown — already one of the best eating neighborhoods in the American West, and the corridor locals defend most fiercely — a tasting-menu room of this pedigree is a statement. Spring Mountain Road has never lacked for great food. What Lilli adds is ceremony: a chef with fine-dining training choosing Chinatown, not the Strip, as the place to do his most personal cooking.

Siegel's 1941: the downtown classic returns

Downtown, the fall's most nostalgic reopening comes with a history lesson built into the name. Siegel's 1941, at El Cortez, is named for Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, an early owner of the property, and for the year El Cortez was established. The restaurant closed in April for a remodel and has now reopened with seating for more than 150 guests.

The new Siegel's 1941 is a daytime restaurant with an old soul. Breakfast runs from 7 to 11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The lunch menu brings back a longtime favorite — the prime rib special — alongside the kind of classic daytime dishes the room built its following on. Then, in the evening, the same room transforms: at 5 p.m. daily it becomes Alex Prime Steakhouse, giving El Cortez a two-concepts-in-one-room rhythm that makes full use of one of downtown's most striking dining spaces.

The timing is not accidental. El Cortez approaches its 85th anniversary on November 7 — eight and a half decades as downtown's original resort, and a property that remains one of the city's most storied addresses. A remodeled Siegel's 1941 is both a restaurant reopening and a piece of that anniversary story: the past, cleaned up and put back to work serving lunch.

Bojangles, with a bar, on the LINQ Promenade

The Strip opening is the loudest one. Bojangles opened October 7 on the LINQ Promenade — and this is not a standard franchise footprint. It is the chain's first location in the country with a full-service bar, a combination that only really makes sense in Las Vegas, where a chicken-and-biscuits counter and a cocktail program can share an address without anyone blinking.

For visitors, it is a late-night-friendly, walk-up option in the middle of the center Strip. For the chain, Las Vegas is the test kitchen: if a Bojangles with a bar works on the LINQ Promenade, it works as a national idea. Either way, it adds a different price point and a different energy to a promenade that already mixes dining, bars and attractions in one pedestrian stretch.

Two quieter openings worth knowing

At Wynn, Cliff House Grill opened October 2 at Wynn Golf Club, overlooking the 18th green. It is a clubhouse setting with a view most lunch rooms in the city cannot match — golf-course green in the middle of the Strip corridor — and it gives the resort a relaxed daytime dining option tied to one of its signature amenities.

In the Arts District, Almond & Oat has opened its third Las Vegas café, inside shareDOWNTOWN. A third location for a local café concept is its own kind of news: it means the first two built enough of a following to grow, and it puts another independent name in a neighborhood that has become the city's home for exactly that kind of business.

BOA Steakhouse makes lunch a daily event

The clearest sign that lunch itself is the trend is on the Strip, at BOA Steakhouse in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian. BOA has expanded to daily lunch service starting at 11:30 a.m., and it is not running a reduced midday menu to do it. Dinner steaks are available at lunch, alongside lunch-only salads, so a midday table gets the full identity of the restaurant rather than a sampler of it.

The details are designed to turn a business lunch into an occasion. There is a $29 wine flight built from two-ounce pours — Hudson Ranch chardonnay, Hirsch “The Bohan-Dillon” pinot noir and Frank Family cabernet, as reported by Las Vegas Magazine — and the appetizer list travels well at noon: goat cheese baklava, hamachi crudo and ahi tuna tartare. It is the classic steakhouse playbook, moved into daylight hours, seven days a week.

What the wave adds up to

Read as one story, the fall openings cover every version of Las Vegas eating at once. Chinatown gets the chef's tasting room. Downtown gets its classic back, with the prime rib special restored to the lunch menu. The Strip gets a chicken chain experimenting with a full bar and a steakhouse deciding lunch deserves steaks, wine flights and crudo. A golf club gets a grill with a view of the 18th green, and the Arts District gets another local café.

For locals, the practical takeaway is simple: some of the season's best new tables are off the Strip, and reservations at Lilli are the ones to make first. For visitors, midday in Las Vegas just got more interesting — lunch is no longer the meal you fill between last night and tonight. This fall, in this city, it is an event of its own.
