TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2026 — Two National League Division Series Game 3s, two home teams silenced on their own turf. The Los Angeles Dodgers rode Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s 10-strikeout masterpiece to a 3-1 win over the Braves at Truist Park, taking a 2-1 series lead. Hours later in San Diego, the Padres hung on for a 4-3 win over the Brewers at Petco Park, trimming Milwaukee’s series lead to 2-1. Both series continue Wednesday with Game 4s — and neither is close to over.
Here is how Tuesday’s Game 3s played out — and what they mean with the series shifting toward their conclusions.
NL Division Series · Game 3Dodgers 3, Braves 1 — Yamamoto deals and October Kike arrives
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was every bit the ace in Game 3, carving up the Braves for 10 strikeouts over seven innings while allowing just four hits and one earned run on 98 pitches. The Dodgers gave him all the support he needed in the fourth off Chris Sale: Enrique Hernández crushed a two-run homer to open the scoring, and two batters later Freddie Freeman added a solo shot to make it 3-0. Atlanta’s only answer came in the fifth, when Drake Baldwin’s RBI trimmed it to 3-1, but the Dodgers’ bullpen did the rest — Tanner Scott worked a scoreless eighth and Edwin Díaz closed the ninth for the save.
Sale took the loss despite striking out seven over five innings, undone by the two fourth-inning homers. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Austin Riley were held hitless, and the Braves managed just five hits all night against Yamamoto and company. With a 2-1 series lead and the win in enemy territory, the Dodgers can close out the NLDS in Game 4 on Wednesday night at Truist Park — and send Atlanta home.
NL Division Series · Game 3Padres 4, Brewers 3 — Cronenworth’s blast stands up in a Petco thriller
The Padres punched back with a wire-to-wire effort at Petco Park in front of 47,708. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado drove in runs in the third off Dustin May for a 2-0 lead, and after William Contreras’ solo homer pulled Milwaukee within one, Jake Cronenworth answered with a go-ahead solo shot in the fifth to restore the cushion. Miguel Andújar’s RBI single in the sixth made it 4-2, and when Christian Yelich’s RBI trimmed it to 4-3 in the seventh, the Padres’ bullpen locked it down — Bradgley Rodríguez bridged the gap and Michael King fired two scoreless innings for the save.
Contreras was the Brewers’ standout at 3-for-4 with a homer, and Milwaukee brought the tying run to the plate in the late innings but couldn’t break through. San Diego’s win pulls the series to 2-1, and Game 4 goes Wednesday night at Petco Park, where the Padres can even the NLDS and force a decisive Game 5 back in Milwaukee.
Two Game 3s, two road wins — and the National League picture keeps shifting. Wednesday’s Game 4s will decide whether the Dodgers close the door on Atlanta and the Padres even things up, or whether both series barrel toward winner-take-all finales. See all the postseason coverage on the MLB page.
