FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2026 — Friday is injury-report day in the NFL, and this one arrived loaded. Lamar Jackson has just an outside chance of playing Sunday night. The Bengals might be without both of their star receivers. And Jayden Daniels is back on the practice field with a brace, a plan, and a brand-new catchphrase as he fights to get back for Sunday. With two days until kickoff, here is where everything stands.
01 Lamar Jackson: "Just an Outside Chance"
The biggest question of Week 5 sits in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson still hasn't practiced. The Ravens' quarterback missed Wednesday's session and sat out again Thursday with the sprained left ankle he suffered in the second quarter of last Sunday's 24-18 win over Tennessee — the one where he left at halftime and walked out of M&T Bank Stadium in a protective boot.
On Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport delivered the news every Ravens fan was dreading: Jackson has, in his words, "just an outside chance" of playing Sunday night in Atlanta — and there's a real possibility he misses Week 6 as well. The consolation, per multiple reports, is that the injury isn't considered long-term and won't require surgery. But "not long-term" and "ready for Sunday night" are very different things.
The Ravens are preparing as if Tyler Huntley is the starter. Huntley replaced Jackson at halftime against the Titans and went 8-of-9 for 63 yards, adding 16 rushing yards, and he took the first-team reps all week with rookie Joe Fagnano behind him. This isn't unfamiliar territory: Huntley has started 11 games in Jackson's place and gone 5-6, and last season he completed 77.6 percent of his passes across two starts. Tight end Mark Andrews said the locker room has full confidence in "Snoop," and head coach Jesse Minter insisted the offense won't have to change much — the system, the under-center run game, the play-action, Huntley can run it all. "Obviously, Lamar's magic is what it is," Minter said. "He is the best quarterback in the league for a reason."
The problem is the math. Baltimore is 6-11 in the 17 games Jackson has previously missed, and this roster is already thin: left tackle Ronnie Stanley (toe), edge rusher Trey Hendrickson (finger), defensive lineman Calais Campbell and cornerback Marlon Humphrey (calf) all sat out Wednesday's practice. Across the field, the Falcons just hung 45 points on the Saints on Monday night and are 2-0 in prime time this season. The Ravens opened as 3.5-point road favorites — a number that plainly assumes Jackson plays. Friday's final injury report is the last word, but don't expect the line to sit still.

02 The Bengals' Vanishing Receiving Corps
Cincinnati might have to face the Dolphins on Sunday without either of its star wide receivers — and the depth chart behind them is getting thin in a hurry.
Ja'Marr Chase remains in the concussion protocol after the second-quarter sequence against Jacksonville that ended his day: a facemask grab by cornerback Jarrian Jones, then a helmet-to-head hit from linebacker Ventrell Miller that drew no flag — a non-call CBS analyst Robert Turbin called shocking on the broadcast. Chase had three catches for 27 yards before he left and did not return. Head coach Zac Taylor said Chase is being monitored day to day, and while the star was in uniform for Thursday's stretch and sprints, his status for Sunday is genuinely unknown.
Tee Higgins, meanwhile, is dealing with an adductor injury suffered late in that same loss — cruel timing, because it interrupted the best game of his season: 11 catches on 16 targets for 157 yards. He got hurt on a 19-yard sideline grab with 5:10 left, played one more snap, and that was it. "He knew the situation we were in. He just couldn't do it," Taylor said. Higgins watched practice from the sideline for the second straight day Thursday, not dressed in uniform.
Behind them, the cupboard is getting bare. No. 3 receiver Andrei Iosivas is on injured reserve with a thumb injury, and No. 4 Colbie Young is battling a knee issue. That leaves Dohnte Meyers — who spent two years in the CFL before a standout training camp earned him a roster spot — and Mitchell Tinsley as the top healthy receivers. Meyers, to his credit, sounds ready: everyone in the room knows the offense, he said, and when your brothers go down, the best thing you can do is make plays for them. Taylor, for his part, isn't panicking. "I don't have any concerns how we will put the plan together," Taylor said. "We will make it work and emphasize the guys we think will be available."
The market has noticed. The Bengals opened as 8.5-point favorites in Miami; the line has fallen to 7.5 and the total has dropped four points. There's also the calendar to consider: Cincinnati has a Week 6 bye. Sitting both receivers against the winless Dolphins to get them healthy for the stretch run is the kind of math that gets discussed in every NFL building this week.

03 The Ones Coming Back: Daniels Embraces the Brace
The best news of the week in Washington: Jayden Daniels was a full participant in Wednesday's practice and is expected to start Sunday when the Commanders host the Giants. Three weeks after dislocating his non-throwing left elbow against Dallas — his second dislocation in a calendar year — Daniels is opting against surgery and will instead wear a brace for the rest of the season. His new motto, delivered at Wednesday's news conference: "I'm going to embrace the brace," Daniels said.
Head coach Dan Quinn has made protecting the quarterback the week's top priority. The brace doesn't fully extend, which is supposed to prevent a re-dislocation, and the staff has drilled Daniels on sliding, throwing the ball away, and — in Quinn's phrase — clasping the ball "like a running back" and rolling to the ground. "We won't put him out there before he's ready," Quinn said. "That's why it's important to trust the process."
The Commanders (1-3) need him badly. They lost 30-13 to the Colts in London last week, committed 10 penalties, and have had two touchdowns wiped out by pre-snap flags over the past two weeks. Marcus Mariota, who steadied the ship at 1-1 as a starter, left the London game with a sprained MCL, which means seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis — 186 yards and a touchdown in relief — would back up Daniels. The good news for Washington: Daniels is 3-0 in his career against the Giants, who counter with Jameis Winston making his third start in place of the injured Jaxson Dart. 04 The Friday Watch List
A few more names to track when the final injury reports drop this afternoon:
Saquon Barkley (hamstring) — doubtful for London. The Eagles' star didn't practice Wednesday, he's officially week-to-week, and Philadelphia is already down to Will Shipley and practice-squad call-up Dameon Pierce with Tank Bigsby on injured reserve. Our Eagles injury report has the full 11-name list.
The 49ers' walking wounded. San Francisco heads to Seattle without Kyle Juszczyk (multi-week knee), Marques Sigle (month-long high-ankle sprain) and Nick Bosa (third straight game), with nickel back Upton Stout's shoulder still a question. The full crisis breakdown is here.
Pat Surtain II (ankle) — out multiple weeks. Denver's All-Pro corner is sidelined, per ESPN's reporting, and the Broncos' defense will feel it against a Chargers team desperate for its first win.
Dallas's Thursday-night hangover. The Cowboys didn't just lose 24-16 to Tampa Bay — they lost CeeDee Lamb (quad) and left tackle Tyler Guyton (back) in the fourth quarter, and now they sit at 2-3 with a mini-bye to think about it. Our Week 5 preview has the full fallout.
The line board. Beyond Cincinnati, the market has moved on three more games: Jacksonville went from -3 to -4.5 or more against the Eagles in London, the Rams slipped from -3 to -2.5 against Buffalo, Chicago moved from -1.5 to -3 against Green Bay, and Minnesota dropped from -2.5 to -1.5 at New Orleans. Fifteen games, two days. Friday's reports will decide a lot of them.
