The Red Raiders hung 53 on Arizona State, Ole Miss smothered Missouri 31-3, and LSU pitched a 31-0 shutout in Baton Rouge — three ranked teams, three messages sent.

Week 7 delivered its share of drama across college football on Saturday, but in Lubbock, Oxford and Baton Rouge there was no drama at all — just three ranked teams making statements at the expense of three other ranked teams. Texas Tech, Ole Miss and LSU all won big, all controlled their games early, and all walked off the field looking like teams nobody in their conferences wants to see in the second half of the season.

Start in Lubbock, where No. 9 Texas Tech dismantled Arizona State 53-25 to improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. The tone was set on Arizona State's first pass of the afternoon: Ben Roberts intercepted Cutter Boley and returned it 24 yards for a pick-six. It only got louder from there. The Red Raiders led 21-0 in the first quarter and 43-10 at halftime, effectively ending the contest before the bands took the field.

The ground game did the heavy lifting. J'Koby Williams ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries, breaking touchdown runs of 62 and 38 yards. As a team, Texas Tech piled up 502 total yards, including 260 rushing yards, and quarterback Will Hammond added a tidy 18-of-26 for 232 yards with a touchdown pass and a touchdown run. Wideout Kenny Johnson caught seven passes for 120 yards, and kicker Stone Harrington went 4-for-4 on field goals from 31, 42, 37 and 34 yards — the kind of complete afternoon where even the special teams join the rout.

Arizona State's quarterback carousel told the other side of the story. Boley was benched at halftime after going 5-of-10 for 124 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Mikey Keene steadied things in relief, going 25-of-34 for 256 yards and two touchdowns, but the hole was far too deep. The Sun Devils fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12, and they have now been outscored 108-44 over their last two conference games — a trend line pointing the wrong way at exactly the wrong time.

In Oxford, No. 10 Ole Miss methodically squeezed the life out of No. 13 Missouri in a 31-3 win. Trinidad Chambliss accounted for four touchdowns to power the Rebels, who led 7-3 after the first quarter, stretched it to 21-3 by halftime with a 14-0 second quarter, and tacked on 10 more points in the fourth after a scoreless third. Missouri's only points came in the opening quarter, and a Tigers offense that needed to trade blows with one of the SEC's most dangerous teams simply never found another one. Holding a ranked conference opponent to a single field goal across four quarters is a defensive statement to match anything the offense produced.

The loudest statement of the three came in Baton Rouge, where No. 21/22 LSU blanked No. 19 Mississippi State 31-0. It was the first time Mississippi State had been shut out since 2020, when Alabama did it, and the Bulldogs went 0-for-5 on fourth down as drive after drive died against the LSU defense.

Context matters for the Bulldogs: they played without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor, who was injured, and without running back Fluff Bothwell, leaving sophomore walk-on Billy Puckett to make his first start in one of the toughest road environments in the sport. Mississippi State was also missing linebackers Jalen Smith and Zakari Tillman, and safety Isaac Smith exited injured during the game. Head coach Jeff Lebby said Taylor "just wasn't (ready)" and added, "He's going to need to have a great week this week... to give himself a chance to play this next Saturday." LSU, now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC, was in no mood to show mercy to a depleted rival, and a shutout of a ranked team will travel well with the selection committee.

There was one more ranked result worth filing from the afternoon window: No. 22 SMU beat Virginia 23-13, another workmanlike win for a Mustangs team that keeps stacking results while the chaos unfolds around it.

Taken together, the three headline games shared a common thread: the favorite played like the favorite, early and emphatically. Texas Tech's offense remains one of the most explosive units in the country. Ole Miss paired its firepower with a suffocating defensive afternoon. LSU reminded everyone that Death Valley on a Saturday remains a problem for visiting teams at full strength, let alone short-handed ones. Week 7 will be remembered for its upsets elsewhere, but in Lubbock, Oxford and Baton Rouge, Saturday was about statements — and all three were delivered.

The unbeaten mark matters most in Lubbock. At 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12, Texas Tech controls its own path in the conference race, and a 53-point afternoon against a ranked league opponent is the kind of result that holds up in every tiebreaker conversation and every ranking debate later in the season. Statement Saturdays in October do not award anything by themselves, but they do sort the contenders from the hopefuls — and on this Saturday, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and LSU all filed their paperwork in the contender column, in ink, by halftime or shortly after.
