Lille Hold Bodø/Glimt in Norway — and End a Fortress Run

Bodø/Glimt had won six straight European home games. Lille arrived without a point. A 0-0 draw in Bodø ended both runs — and left both sides staring at the bottom half of the table.

Some nights, the story is what did not happen.

Bodø/Glimt had won each of their last six home matches in European competition — a run at Aspmyra that took in famous wins over Manchester City and Inter Milan, and Borussia Dortmund last month. Lille ended it on Tuesday night, holding the Norwegians 0-0 in Bodø. The full match archive is in the Game Center.

Lille needed the point more. The French side arrived pointless after three straight Champions League defeats — to Real Betis, Arsenal and Galatasaray, with ten goals conceded — and on a club-record run of five straight defeats in major European competition. They leave Norway off the mark at last, 34th in the 36-team table with one point from four games.

The clean sheet ran through their goalkeeper. Berke Özer made four saves and finished as the game's top-rated player. Bodø/Glimt put all four of their shots on target and carved out the game's only two big chances, and still could not find a way through. Lille had more of the ball in the final third — nine shots to four — but only two on target, and the first half set the tone: three shots in total, one on target, all of them Lille's.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, and it ends with both sides in trouble of different sizes. Bodø/Glimt are 23rd on four points, inside the playoff places but with no margin. Lille are 34th, and their next European assignment is the hardest one on the calendar: Bayern Munich at home on November 25. Bodø/Glimt host LASK Linz the night before.
