Cyberpunk 2077’s Free Edgerunners 2 Update Arrives October 22, With Dual-Wielding and Custom Chrome

Night City is getting one more major patch. CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a free update — the Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5 — on Thursday, October 22, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow shortly, Gadgets 360 reported. The update is timed to the premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the standalone anime sequel that launched on Netflix on Tuesday with all ten episodes at once, and the studio will show the patch in detail in a special REDstreams broadcast on Wednesday, October 21 at 5 PM CEST on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, with official patch notes to follow the stream. What CD Projekt Red has confirmed

The confirmed list is short, deliberate and headlined by two features. In its announcement, the studio teased cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle, Gadgets 360 reported, and described the patch as adding content inspired by Edgerunners 2 along with a range of new items and features. The studio’s social post announcing the stream put it this way, as quoted by Gadgets 360: “New Edgerunners, new chrome, new playstyle? Sounds like we need another REDstreams! Join us this Wednesday, October 21st at 5 PM CEST for a closer look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) and some of the features coming to Cyberpunk 2077. Dual-wielding is the feature with a history. As EpicFlix reported in its coverage of the announcement, the ability to fight with a weapon in each hand was cut before Cyberpunk 2077’s December 2020 launch, and players have requested it ever since; the update’s official illustration leans into exactly that fantasy, showing V back to back with a character from the new season of the anime, pistols in both hands. Cyberware customization, the second confirmed pillar, opens up how players can build and tune the look of V’s chrome. Beyond those two, CD Projekt Red has confirmed only that the patch is free, that it carries Edgerunners 2-inspired content, and that the full list waits for Wednesday’s stream.

What has reportedly leaked — and what has not

A fuller picture has circulated ahead of the stream, and it should be read as reported rather than confirmed. Nintendo Life reported that a content creator released details of the update ahead of schedule, and summarized the rundown via Push Square: a new side quest called “Clampdown,” set before Cyberpunk Edgerunners Season 2; a second quest, “Welcome to Paradise,” taking V on a mysterious tour of Night City; a “Double Trouble” perk in the Cool skill tree that lets players dual-wield power pistols or revolvers, with secondary perks branching from it; a radio station featuring tracks from both seasons of the anime; five new “Glamdocs” where players can customize the look of their arm and hand cyberware, staffed by new characters with fresh voice lines and animations; five new clothing sets; new hairstyles; more photo mode options; an FOV slider on consoles; save file folders; stash item filters; mod support on consoles via mod.io, reportedly not available on Switch 2; and bug fixes.

None of that list has been confirmed by CD Projekt Red, and the studio’s own communications have pointedly named only the two headline features. The honest way to hold the story on Tuesday night is the way the sources themselves hold it: the update, its date, its platforms and its two pillars are announced fact; the quest names, the perk tree and the Glamdocs are a detailed, plausible leak that Wednesday’s REDstreams and patch notes will either ratify or correct within a day. Players deciding whether to reinstall a very large game may want to wait for the notes. Players who never uninstalled it have, at minimum, a confirmed reason to come back on Thursday.

Why this pairing works

The strategy is proven, and the precedent is the franchise’s own. As GamesFinity recounted in its coverage, the first Edgerunners landed in September 2022 alongside Update 1.6, and CD Projekt Red credited the pair for a jump in sales that quarter, with daily players staying above one million for at least four weeks. The anime brought people to the game; the patch gave the people already there something new. WCCFTech reported that the second season follows a fresh cast — a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner — in a story the studios describe as one of vengeance and redemption, directed by Kai Ikarashi with Bartosz Sztybor returning as showrunner, story writer and producer, and Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer.

That is the machinery Update 2.5 slots into. Edgerunners 2 gives Night City a new story on Tuesday; the update gives the game a new way to be played on Thursday, built from the same iconography. A six-year-old game receiving a free, feature-led patch — not a balance pass, but a new playstyle and a customization system — is the clearest sign of how completely the franchise’s center of gravity has shifted since 2020: the anime is no longer the game’s companion piece, and the game is no longer finished. Both halves of that sentence get their next chapter this week.
