The Golden Knights' week splits neatly into two acts: business on Tuesday, history on Saturday. Vegas visits the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, Oct. 6 — a Pacific Division road test — and then comes home for the biggest regular-season night of October: "Welcome to Impossible Knight" presented by Circa Sports, Saturday at 7 p.m. PT against the Los Angeles Kings at T-Mobile Arena. The team announced the plans Oct. 1, and the headline for longtime fans is simple: it's the last time you'll ever see the inaugural gray jerseys in a game.
The anniversary math is doing a lot of the work here. Saturday lands exactly nine years after the franchise's first home game, played Oct. 10, 2017 — and the night is the first of five Anniversary Knights celebrating Season X. "The game celebrates the inaugural season when the Golden Knights defied the odds and became the most successful expansion team in professional sports history," the club said in its Oct. 1 announcement. For a franchise that is barely a decade old, that's not nostalgia — it's the founding myth, and they're throwing it a party.

The gray jerseys are the emotional center. The Knights will retire the inaugural look from the rotation after Saturday — the "final time the Golden Knights wear the inaugural gray jerseys before they are retired," the team’s announcement said. Fans can expect odes to Season I through the pregame and in-game presentation, and the first 10,000 through the doors get a commemorative puck, "similar to what was given at the franchise's first home game in 2017," the announcement said. If you were there for game one — or you've spent nine years hearing stories about it — this is the callback.
The weekend starts before puck drop. The Knights will hold practice Friday, Oct. 9 at 11:30 a.m. PT at City National Arena, open to fans, with members of the 2017-18 team present to meet fans and sign autographs. (The team notes practice is subject to change.) Then Saturday's pregame is Fan Fest, presented by Raising Cane's, from 4 to 6 p.m. PT at Paramount+ Plaza — and the guest list reads like a roll call of the original Misfits: Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Oscar Dansk, Cody Eakin, Deryk Engelland, Brad Hunt, James Neal, Ryan Reaves, and first head coach Gerard Gallant. They'll talk through the journey "from the 2017 Expansion Draft to the doorstep of a Stanley Cup," the announcement said, with autographs and a chance to receive a jersey from the former players in attendance.

The season-long framing matters too. "Every chapter of our first decade has been shaped by unforgettable moments and the incredible support of our fans," said Bryan Harper, the Golden Knights' chief marketing officer, when the club unveiled its Season X theme nights. "As we celebrate Season X, we wanted to create a series of game nights that honors the defining eras of our journey, from our inaugural season to our Stanley Cup championship and where we are today. Each Anniversary Knight allows fans to relive those memories while creating new ones together as we celebrate this milestone season." Saturday is the first installment; "Vegas Born Knight" (Dec. 16), "Misfits to Champions Knight" (Feb. 13), "The Golden Age Knight" (March 15) and "Fan Appreciation Knight" (April 10) follow.
And for the hockey obsessives, the subtext of Saturday is the sweater itself. The inaugural gray was the look of a team nobody expected anything from — the Expansion Draft afterthought that won 51 games and went to a Cup Final in year one. Retiring it nine years to the day of the first home game is the franchise putting a frame around its origin story, the way expansion teams almost never get to. The 2018 run ended one round short of the Cup; the "doorstep of a Stanley Cup" the club references in its announcement is the part of the story that still stings. Saturday's celebration is the anniversary night, but the room will know what the Misfits were really chasing — and what this roster, nine Octobers later, is still chasing.
But first, Tuesday.
But first, Tuesday. The Seattle trip is a tone-setter: the Kraken at home are never a quiet night, and the Knights roll into the Pacific Northwest fresh off a 3-2 win at Vancouver. The club's identity this season has been built shift by shift — the fourth line has set the tone early — and a disciplined road game in Seattle would be exactly the kind of win that lets Saturday be a celebration instead of a salvage operation.

And Saturday is going to be a collision of Vegas sports energy. UNLV's homecoming is the same day — the Rebels and a 60,000-fan homecoming crowd set up the afternoon — which means the city gets a full day of maroon-and-gray followed by gold at T-Mobile. Plan accordingly: Toshiba Plaza and the Park will be packed well before the 4 p.m. Fan Fest, and the first 10,000 puck giveaway means early arrival isn't a suggestion.
One more note for the collectors: this is a genuine retirement, not a "last call for now." When the gray jerseys leave the rotation after Saturday, an era of the franchise's visual identity closes with them. The Anniversary Knights will keep telling the history — but Saturday is the only night the history dresses the way it did at the start. More Vegas sports, every day, in the daily roundup.
