October baseball took over Saturday night. All four Division Series opened with Game 1s — the Dodgers held off the Braves 5-3 at Chavez Ravine while the Rays blanked the Yankees 1-0 in a pure pitchers’ duel — and the rest of the sports world kept pace: Minnesota stunned Michigan 20-14, Miami rolled Clemson 41-13 at Death Valley, and the NHL packed 13 games into its opening-weekend Saturday. All 72 finals, below.

1. Dodgers strike first, 5-3 over the Braves

Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernández both went deep as the Dodgers took the NL Division Series opener 5-3 over the Braves at Dodger Stadium. Hernández drove in two on a 2-for-4 night, and the Dodgers held on after Atlanta got homers from Sean Murphy and Ozzie Albies — Albies driving in two. Los Angeles draws first blood at home; Game 2 goes Sunday. Dodgers · Braves · MLB · Postseason recap

2. Rays blank the Yankees 1-0 in a Game 1 pitchers’ duel

Jonathan Aranda’s solo homer was the entire offense as the Rays shut out the Yankees 1-0 in the AL Division Series opener. New York never solved Tampa Bay’s staff in a game with October written all over it — every pitch mattered, and one swing decided it. The Yankees will be thinking about this one all night. 3. Brewers edge Padres 3-2 in the NLDS opener

William Contreras broke a 2-2 tie with a solo homer and Jackson Chourio added a two-run shot and two RBIs as the Brewers took Game 1 from the Padres 3-2 in Milwaukee. San Diego’s Manny Machado doubled twice but the Padres couldn’t cash the tying run. Milwaukee leads the series 1-0. Brewers · Padres · MLB

4. White Sox take Game 1 in Cleveland, 3-0

Murakami homered and drove in two as the White Sox blanked the Guardians 3-0 in the ALDS opener in Cleveland. Chicago’s pitching did the rest — a road shutout to open a playoff series is as loud a statement as October gets. White Sox · Guardians · MLB

5. Minnesota stuns Michigan 20-14

The upset of the day in college football: Minnesota knocked off Michigan 20-14 at home, holding the Wolverines to two scores. The Gophers’ defense owned the afternoon in Minneapolis — the kind of win that rearranges the Big Ten race and the playoff conversation. College football · Saturday Night Wrap

6. Miami rolls at Clemson 41-13

Miami walked into Death Valley and walked out with a 41-13 statement win over Clemson. The Hurricanes were in control throughout — a road rout of a rival that announces exactly where this team thinks it belongs. College football

7. Georgia handles Vanderbilt 38-14

Georgia took care of business 38-14 over Vanderbilt in Athens. The Bulldogs never let the Commodores hang around — workmanlike, ruthless, very Georgia in October. College football

8. USC’s comeback caps the night

USC scored the final 15 points to stun Washington 25-21 at the Coliseum — our Saturday Night Wrap has the full game story, from the “Fire Lincoln!” chants to the goal-line stand that sealed it. College football

9. Overtime thrillers: Kentucky 35, South Carolina 34; Syracuse 42, UConn 41

Two instant classics needed extra time: Kentucky edged South Carolina 35-34 in an SEC overtime thriller, and Syracuse outlasted UConn 42-41 in a shootout that went to OT. October college football at its absolute best. College football

10. Islanders blank the Devils 6-0

The Islanders hung a 6-0 shutout on the Devils — the most lopsided result on a 13-game NHL Saturday. Brayden Schenn scored in the rout as New York’s goaltending did the rest. Islanders · NHL

11. Overtime on ice: Penguins 6, Canadiens 5; Sharks 5, Kings 4

Three of the NHL’s 13 games needed overtime. The Penguins outlasted the Canadiens 6-5 behind Tommy Novak’s two goals — Cole Caufield scored twice and Nick Suzuki had three assists in the loss — while the Sharks edged the Kings 5-4 on Igor Chernyshov’s two-goal night with Macklin Celebrini adding two assists. Carolina also needed OT, beating Philadelphia 3-2 on Sebastian Aho’s two goals. Penguins · Sharks · Kings · NHL

12. Saturday’s stars: Kaprizov, MacKinnon, McDavid

Kirill Kaprizov scored twice in Minnesota’s 4-1 win over Boston. Nathan MacKinnon piled up three assists and Martin Necas scored twice as Colorado routed St. Louis 6-1. Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist in Edmonton’s 3-1 win over Seattle, and Jake Guentzel had three points in Tampa Bay’s 3-1 win over Washington. Wild · Avalanche · NHL
