SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2026 — If you only had one screen on last night, it was the wrong one by 11:30 PM Eastern. Twenty-five finals rolled in across the NFL, October baseball, the WNBA semifinals and a full hockey Sunday — and the night belonged to Bryce Young, Jackson Chourio, and a Chiefs–Raiders finish that had Allegiant Stadium holding its breath until the very last throw.
NFL: Young goes off on Sunday night, Chiefs survive in Vegas
The Panthers are the talk of Monday morning. Bryce Young went 29-of-41 for 329 yards and two touchdowns, Tetairoa McMillan torched the Lions for 14 catches, 192 yards and two scores, and Chuba Hubbard added 122 rushing yards and two more touchdowns as Carolina took down Detroit 32-26 on Sunday Night Football at Bank of America Stadium. Jared Goff threw for 412 yards in defeat, and a late Sam LaPorta touchdown cut it to six — but this was the Panthers' night, and Young's night, start to finish.
In Las Vegas, the Chiefs stayed perfect the hard way. The 3-0 Raiders led 19-17 late in the fourth — and first-year coach Klint Kubiak had told CBS at halftime, on national television, "we're going to win the game" — before Patrick Mahomes' 55-yard strike to Tyquan Thornton set up Kenneth Walker's first of two touchdown runs in a 20-second span, and a fumbled kickoff turned a one-score game into an 11-point Kansas City lead. Kirk Cousins (31-of-52, 365 yards) nearly stole it back, hitting Brock Bowers for a 20-yard score and converting the two-pointer with 1:46 to play, but his final heave from the Raiders' 1-yard line with 10 seconds left was intercepted by Xavier Nwankpa to end it, 30-27. The Chiefs are 4-0, the AFC's last unbeaten team. The cruel footnote: Thornton was carted off with a serious ankle injury on the 55-yard catch that flipped the game — a career night (five catches, 111 yards, two touchdowns) ending in an air cast. Drake Maye finally got his breakout. The Patriots quarterback threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns — the last a leaping, one-handed 23-yard grab by Efton Chism III with 1:50 to play — then hit Rhamondre Stevenson for the two-point conversion, and Craig Woodson's interception of Josh Allen at the New England 19 sealed a 29-26 stunner at Highmark Stadium. Buffalo lost for the first time in its new stadium; Allen at least left with the franchise record for scrimmage touchdowns (88). New England is 2-2 and back in the AFC East race.
The Rams trailed the Eagles by 10 in the fourth quarter in Philadelphia and won 24-20 anyway, with Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams engineering the comeback. The pressure in Philly is getting real; the Rams are starting to look like a team that believes. Full recap
Elsewhere: CeeDee Lamb went off as the Cowboys survived a Texas shootout in Houston, 34-30. San Francisco shook off a slow start at Levi's, reeling off 24 straight points before a late Broncos push made it 24-14. The defending champion Seahawks held serve at home, 30-23 over the Chargers. Baltimore beat Tennessee 24-18 with Lamar Jackson sitting out the second half with a sprained left ankle the Ravens hope isn't severe. Indianapolis rolled 30-13 in Washington, where Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota left with a knee injury — the latest domino in the league's ongoing quarterback crisis (our full look). Tyson Bagent's Bears moved to 3-1 with a 23-12 win over the Jets, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick finally ended the Jets' NFL-record 20-game interception drought (full story). Green Bay escaped Tampa 17-14 in an ugly one. Trevor Lawrence got his first win ever against the Bengals, 22-17. The Giants won a shootout over Arizona, 36-24. And Minnesota ground out a 15-10 win over Miami.

MLB: Chourio walks it off; Braves punch back
Jackson Chourio is becoming Milwaukee's October legend in real time. Down to their final strike against the game's most overpowering closer, the Brewers loaded the bases on three walks off Mason Miller, and Chourio lined a 101.3 mph fastball up the middle for a two-run walk-off single — a 4-3 Game 2 win over the Padres, and the third postseason walk-off in franchise history. Milwaukee never led until the last swing. The Brewers take a 2-0 series lead to San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday (FS1, 9:30 PM ET, Dustin May vs. Nick Pivetta).
In Los Angeles, the Braves punched back. Michael Harris II finished a home run shy of the cycle — his two-out triple in the fifth scored on Kris Bubic's wild pitch, and his seventh-inning double drove in the insurance run — as Atlanta beat the Dodgers 3-2 in a bullpen game to even the NLDS at one game apiece. Blake Snell lasted just 3 2/3 innings for Los Angeles, walking five; Max Muncy's two-out ninth-inning homer made it interesting, but Raisel Iglesias closed it out. The Dodgers were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and all seven of their runs in the series have come on home runs. Game 3 is Tuesday in Atlanta: Chris Sale vs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, 6 PM ET.

WNBA: Semifinal Game 1s — the champs are in trouble
Jordin Canada took over the second half — 20 of her 25 points — and Atlanta's defense produced a 32-15 third quarter as the Dream beat the Liberty 92-82 in Game 1 of their best-of-five semifinal. The Dream scored 32 points off 21 Liberty turnovers; Sabrina Ionescu's 27 points and Breanna Stewart's 19 weren't enough. The worry for Atlanta: Allisha Gray left with a hand injury in the second quarter, and DeWanna Bonner (23 points) had to fill the void.
The defending champions are in real trouble. Gabby Williams went for 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists as the Valkyries beat the Aces 71-60 in Game 1 at Chase Center, outrebounding them 52-25 and holding them to their lowest point total of the season. A'ja Wilson scored 24 for Las Vegas, but the Aces also lost Jewell Loyd to a left-leg injury early in the third quarter — and with NaLyssa Smith, Stephanie Talbot and Dana Evans already out, Becky Hammon's rotation is running on fumes. The second-year Valkyries lead the series 1-0. WNBA page
