WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2026 — The National League Championship Series is set. On a four-game playoff night across both leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers closed out their Division Series in Game 4s on the road within hours of each other — arranging an NLCS rematch of last October, when the Dodgers swept Milwaukee on their way to a second straight World Series title. In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays swept the Yankees out of October at Yankee Stadium, and the Guardians refused to let their season die in Chicago.
Here is how Wednesday’s games played out — and what comes next.
NL Division Series · Game 4Dodgers 4, Braves 1 — Pages delivers, and the three-peat rolls on
For six innings, Game 4 was a pitchers’ duel at Truist Park: Tyler Glasnow was wild but effective for the Dodgers, striking out five over 4 2/3 innings while walking five, and hard-luck loser Tyler Mahle allowed just two runs — one earned — over 6 1/3 for Atlanta. Los Angeles broke it open in the seventh, when Teoscar Hernández singled, pinch-hitter Josue De Paula and Kyle Tucker walked to load the bases, and Andy Pages lined a 3-2 pitch from Robert Suarez up the middle for two runs — the Dodgers’ first hit with runners in scoring position in the entire series after an 0-for-14 start. Edgardo Henriquez escaped a sixth-inning jam to earn his first career postseason win, Tanner Scott was perfect in the eighth and Edwin Díaz closed it for his second save of the series, and Max Muncy’s 389-foot solo shot in the ninth was his third homer of the postseason and the 19th of his playoff career, extending his Dodgers franchise record.
Michael Harris II had two of Atlanta’s three hits, including a double, but the Braves finished the series 1-for-23 with runners in scoring position and never solved the Dodgers’ bullpen. The 3-1 series win sends Los Angeles to the NLCS for the third straight year, still chasing history as the first National League team to win three straight World Series. Game 1 of the NLCS is Sunday.
NL Division Series · Game 4Brewers 3, Padres 1 — Mitchell robs the tying homer, Milwaukee advances
Garrett Mitchell was the story on both sides of the ball at Petco Park. He drove in the game’s first run with a third-inning single, then opened the fifth with a triple and scored on Jackson Chourio’s tiebreaking single — Chourio’s 17th career postseason RBI, breaking Ryan Braun’s franchise record — before Sal Frelick’s sacrifice fly made it 3-1. The dagger came in the eighth: with a runner on, Manny Machado launched a 406-foot drive to center off Abner Uribe, and Mitchell went back and leapt at the wall to rob the would-be game-tying two-run homer. Aaron Ashby tossed three scoreless, hitless innings of relief for the win, and Trevor Megill struck out two in a perfect ninth for his second save of the series.
Fernando Tatis Jr.’s solo homer was the Padres’ only answer, and San Diego stranded the bases loaded in the first inning in a game it never recovered from. Milwaukee wins the series 3-1, snaps a 12-game postseason road losing streak dating to 2018, and gets its NLCS rematch with the Dodgers — who swept the Brewers last October.
AL Division Series · Game 3Rays 4, Yankees 3 — Mesa Jr. and a fan-interference reversal complete the sweep
Rookie Victor Mesa Jr. sent the Yankees home in the sixth, crushing a 77-mph sweeper from Max Fried 401 feet to right-center for a two-run homer — his first career postseason blast — two batters after Junior Caminero’s two-out single. New York’s best chance died in the bottom of the sixth, when Anthony Volpe’s would-be game-tying two-run homer caromed off a fan’s reach over the left-field fence and was overturned to an RBI double after a crew-chief review. Jonathan Aranda’s RBI single and Ryan Vilade’s solo homer had staked Tampa Bay to its early lead, and closer Bryan Baker struck out Trent Grisham with the tying run on second to end the Yankees’ season.
The Rays reach the ALCS for the first time since 2020 and will host the White Sox-Guardians winner starting Monday. The Yankees, meanwhile, were swept in a Division Series for the first time in franchise history — a fourth ALDS loss in nine seasons under Aaron Boone.
AL Division Series · Game 3Guardians 9, White Sox 3 — Cleveland triples its way to Game 4
Cleveland’s season was on life support at Rate Field, and it responded with 11 hits — including two-out triples from Jo Adell and José Ramírez, the first two-triple postseason game in franchise history. Adell’s bases-clearing triple capped a four-run third for a 4-1 lead, and Ramírez — hitless in the series with a sore left wrist — doubled in the fifth, made a diving snare of a bases-loaded liner at third to preserve a 5-3 lead in the sixth, and tripled home two more in the eighth. Seven Guardians pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts: Foster Griffin set a franchise reliever record with seven in 2 2/3 innings, Tim Herrin struck out the side in the seventh, and Cade Smith fanned five over the final two.
The White Sox still lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 on Thursday at Rate Field, where Hagen Smith opens for Chicago against Cleveland’s Parker Messick — and where the White Sox can still clinch a postseason series at home for the first time since 1906.
Two series closed out, one rematch set, one sweep complete and one ALDS still alive. The Dodgers and Brewers run it back in the NLCS starting Sunday; the Rays await the White Sox-Guardians winner starting Monday. See all the postseason coverage on the MLB page.
