MW4 Season 1 Drops November 6 — and It's Stacked

Two weeks after launch, Modern Warfare 4's first season brings three new multiplayer maps on day one, a sealed black site in DMZ, a 1,200-RPM SMG — and Warzone comes with it. Here's the full briefing: what's free, what's in the Battle Pass, and what waits for mid-season.

The Short Version

Modern Warfare 4 has been out for five days, and Infinity Ward is already reloading. Season 1 — the game's first full season of content — goes live at midnight ET on Friday, November 6 (that's 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, November 5) across every platform, and Activision's full briefing, published today, makes one thing clear: this is not a light content drop with a Battle Pass stapled to it. It's new maps, new modes, an entire new DMZ location, four new weapons across the season, a season-long event slate — and the long-promised integration of Call of Duty: Warzone.

The timing matters. The pre-season has already been moving: Shipment returned on October 27, the new Possession mode lands tomorrow (October 29) and Infected arrives October 30. Season 1 is the main event those drops were warming up for. Here's everything in it.

The Maps: Three on Day One, More at Mid-Season

Season 1 adds more than six maps across the season. Three arrive at launch, all 6v6:

Backstab (brand-new) — a snowed-in, war-torn town where abandoned tanks litter the streets. Long sightlines rule outside; the fights get close inside the open buildings. The power positions are the rooftops and upper floors: the Stronghold House, the Sniper House, Grandpa's House and the Destroyed Building, with blasted walls opening up flank routes between them.

Canyon (brand-new) — the opposite climate. Towering rock walls trap the chaos in a sun-scorched canyon with wide-open spaces and hard natural boundaries. Run the River past the Convoy Ambush site, take the Cliff Path, duck into the northern Cave and Abandoned Shack for ambushes, or fight for the central Mesa, which sees both ends of the map.

Shoot House (reimagined) — the fan-favorite three-laner is back, rebuilt for MW4's movement and reset in North Korea under a light snowfall. Veterans will know the layout cold — Junkyard, the Center tunnels, the Containers, and the fight for the overhead Hospital and Apartment — but it's a new coat of war on a classic frame.

Two more maps are already named for Season 1: Reloaded, the mid-season drop: Ministry, a brawl in and around a damaged embassy during the Global Peace Summit, and Overflow, a factory-and-farmland map with a mobile rocket-launcher convoy firing in the distance. Activision is holding additional mid-season maps as [CLASSIFIED] for now.

There's also a featured playlist twist: Kill Block: Crash locks Kill Block's three slabs into a static combo — Crash always front and center — hand-picked by Infinity Ward from the most popular combinations in the MW4 Beta, and folded into core playlists including Search and Destroy.

The Modes: Grind, Drop Zone and a 1v1 Gauntlet

At launch, Season 1 brings back two classics and adds a wager-driven duel:

Grind — eliminate players, recover their dog tags, and carry them to one of two Banks to score. Both teams can deposit at either bank, and you drop every tag you're carrying when you die — so the rich runs are also the riskiest.

Drop Zone — hold the single rotating objective while periodic airdrops deliver random Killstreak packages over the zone. The rich get richer.

Gauntlet 1v1 — a limited-time 1v1 Gunfight variant accessed through the Wager Match Event (more on that below). Wager your trophies, win, stay on, and face the next challenger.

Still to come at mid-season: Counter Attack, a bomb mode built around detonating the enemy's Comm Station while protecting your own, plus an unnamed mode that twists the Team Deathmatch formula. And the two pre-season party modes arriving this week — Possession (kill an enemy, possess their body and steal their Loadout) and Infected — are part of the same build-up, live before Season 1 even starts.

DMZ: The X01 Black Site Opens

The biggest single addition is in DMZ. Designation: X01 is a new location — a former GRANIT Arms black site, a fully enclosed weapons facility seized by enemy forces on North Korea's northern border and reached through the Hajin Exclusion Zone. Cargo bays and vehicle depots up top; underground labs, production lines and a sealed Deep Vault below. It's a maze of tunnels and multi-floored vertical routes where, per the briefing, the rogue Operator squads roaming it are the least of your worries.

Ghost runs the operation as your Watcher, guiding squads through multiple pages of new DMZ Orders as they push deeper. Expect troops and specialists from the 100 Spirits NK Faction, plus stronger, more brutal entities Activision is keeping classified. The Boss Board names the Lieutenants — Tae-Hyun ("Knuckle") and Chol-Min ("The Wrench") — and Commanders including The Captain, a Juggernaut backed by an elite guard. And getting out is part of the challenge: as the facility's forces respond, extraction points start closing off, and escaping means completing the required steps — or dying trying.

Season 1 also layers events across DMZ: Threat Briefings that teach you to hunt the biggest bosses (in Hajin, stripping parts off an NK main battle tank across multiple deployments; in X01, taking sections of The Captain's helmet and exfiling with them), a Resupply Run that trades scavenged items for high-value gear like Self Revives and 3-Plate Carriers, and Commander Hunts as the season rolls on. Your Forward Operating Base gets new stations too, including a Battle Pass and Store Station, a Vendor, and a 3D Printer whose purpose is — say it with us — [CLASSIFIED].

The Weapons: Two at Launch, Two More In-Season

Four new weapons land across Season 1:

Cronen Osprey (Assault Rifle — launch). A 5.56 precision rifle firing at 882 RPM — rivaled only by the M4 for fire rate — that kicks up and to the right in sustained fire. It unlocks in the Battle Pass at Tier 16. Its Apex Attachment, the Cronen Helix Mk. II, is a double-barrel receiver that fires on both the trigger pull and the release.

CSG-35 (SMG — launch). The headline stat of the season: 1,200 RPM, the highest fire rate in its class. Modest damage per round, savage inside 20 meters, and a handful beyond it. It unlocks in the Battle Pass at Tier 36, and its Apex Attachment — CSG Crossfire — lets you dual-wield it akimbo.

JAK 12 (Shotgun — in-season). A full-auto breaching shotgun, earned as an event reward later in the season. Its JAK Barrage Apex Attachment fires a salvo of adhesive explosives.

ZLR Talonhawk (Melee — in-season). A combat axe, also earned as an event reward.

More Apex Attachments arrive in-season as Wager Match and event rewards, including a full-auto conversion for the Hyeon Burst rifle and a 5.45 conversion for the Kastov 762.

The Wager Match Event — and What's Free vs Paid

Season 1 kicks off with the Wager Match Event, running across Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone. Trophies are the currency: collect them through the Gauntlet 1v1 playlist and challenges in the other modes to earn Weapon Attachments, with extra rewards for the top three winners and Mastery Rewards — an Operator Skin, a Blueprint, a Weapon Camo — behind them. (One clarification worth making: Activision states plainly that no money or items of real-world value are involved. The wagers are trophies, not cash.) Weapon Camo Events and the squad-scaling Joint Fire Event round out the opening slate.

Now the money question, because Season 1 mixes three tiers:

A good cause rides along, too: the C.O.D.E. Valor Pack arrives in Warzone for Season 1, built with Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter, with 100% of Activision's net proceeds going to the Call of Duty Endowment's work placing veterans into jobs.

And Warzone Comes With It

Season 1 is also the moment Warzone integrates with Modern Warfare 4 — with two brand-new Warzone maps, Hajin and Zodiac, plus the return of Verdansk and Rebirth Island. Activision is holding the full Warzone briefing for its own post on Monday, November 2, so consider this the headline version; we'll have the complete Warzone breakdown when that roadmap drops.

Previously Staff’s read: Put it together and the picture is aggressive. MW4 launched on October 23 with 20-plus maps; by November 6 — exactly two weeks later — it will have added Shipment, two party modes, three more launch maps, a featured Kill Block combo, a new DMZ location with its own boss ecosystem, two Battle Pass weapons, a wager-driven event system and full Warzone integration, with a named mid-season drop (Ministry, Overflow, Counter Attack, the JAK 12 and the Talonhawk) still in reserve. That is not a season designed to rescue a slow launch. It's a season designed to make sure nobody drifts away from a hot one — every week of MW4's first month has a dated reason to log back in, and the season's own Reloaded beat is already loaded before Season 1 even starts.

Season 1 goes live Friday, November 6 at midnight ET (9 p.m. PT Thursday). Possession tomorrow, Infected Friday — see you in the queue.
