Robert Pattinson's 'Primetime' Sets Its Digital Release for November 3 — 39 Days After Opening in Theaters

The A24 drama, with Pattinson as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, heads to rent-or-buy platforms November 3 after an 86% Rotten Tomatoes run and $42.1 million at the domestic box office.

Robert Pattinson's strangest role of the year is about to get a lot easier to see. Primetime, the A24 drama in which Pattinson plays To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, is set to arrive on digital platforms on November 3, 2026, according to FandomWire — just 39 days after the film opened in U.S. theaters on September 25. MaxBlizz reported the same November 3 date, listing Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu and Google Play Movies among the storefronts where the film will be available to buy or rent in digital HD.

FandomWire reported that viewers will be able to rent or buy the film on four major digital storefronts: Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Apple TV and Google Play Movies. According to FandomWire, rentals on those platforms typically give viewers 30 days to start the movie and 48 hours to finish it once playback begins, while a purchase keeps the film in a viewer's digital library permanently. For a mid-budget drama that has already done its theatrical business, that is a fast, confident move to the home screen — and, as FandomWire noted, it fits A24's usual habit of moving its films from cinemas to home viewing fairly quickly.

A Venice premiere and a career-swing performance

The film's path to November 3 began on the festival circuit. According to FandomWire, Primetime premiered at the Venice International Film Festival before its September 25 theatrical opening in the United States. The film is directed by Lance Oppenheim and written by Ajon Singh, WhenToStream reported. MaxBlizz noted that the film marks Oppenheim's narrative feature directorial debut, and that it is based on a 2007 Esquire article, following the production of the reality television series To Catch a Predator.

The premise, as summarized by WhenToStream, is set in 2006: Hansen, played by Pattinson, sets out to make television history, and when a high-stakes operation goes fatally wrong, his dream of fame curdles into what the synopsis calls a nightmare of performative justice. It is, in other words, a film about a man who built a career on confronting people on camera — turned back on its host. Pattinson is joined by a deep ensemble: FandomWire and WhenToStream list Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine among the principal cast, and MaxBlizz's fuller cast list adds Anna Faris, Alex Winter and Phoebe Bridgers, among others.

The numbers behind the release

Critics have been kind. FandomWire reported that the film holds an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes as of October 13, 2026, and MaxBlizz reported the same 86% critics' score alongside a 79% audience score, a 7.2 out of 10 rating on IMDb and a B CinemaScore. The box office has matched the reviews. According to FandomWire, citing Box Office Mojo figures, Primetime opened to $18.8 million — one of the biggest debuts in A24's history — and has since earned $42.1 million domestically, against a production budget FandomWire put at a modest $15 million.

Those figures explain the timing. A 39-day theatrical window is short by old Hollywood standards, but for a film that has already more than doubled its production budget at the domestic box office alone, the digital window is less an exit than a second opening. Every week of strong word of mouth in theaters becomes marketing for the rental chart, and Pattinson's performance — the element of the film that MaxBlizz singled out for particular acclaim — is the kind of work that travels well by recommendation. Viewers who skipped the cinema run because a dark, candy-colored drama about a 2000s sting show sounded like a tough sell now get to test that reputation for the price of a rental.

What about subscription streaming?

Viewers holding out for a subscription stream will have to wait longer, and patience is the only confirmed strategy. FandomWire reported that A24 has a long-running deal with HBO, meaning most of its films eventually land on HBO Max, and that recent A24 releases have typically made that jump about three to four months after hitting theaters — a pattern that, by FandomWire's estimate, could put Primetime on HBO Max in early 2027, possibly January. ComingSoon, in its own look at the film's release windows, likewise stressed that A24 has not announced a streaming date and that any subscription debut remains an expectation based on the studio's past pattern rather than a confirmed plan.

One caution for anyone circling the date: WhenToStream, which also lists November 3, noted that A24 itself had not formally announced or confirmed the digital date in its reporting, and that release dates can change. Two independent outlets landing on the same Tuesday, however, makes November 3 the date to plan around — with the usual asterisk that applies to every digital release until the studio says it out loud.

For now, the confirmed shape of the rollout is simple. Primetime is still in theaters following its September 25 opening. On November 3, per FandomWire and MaxBlizz, it becomes a rent-or-buy title across the major storefronts. And sometime after that, if A24's established pattern holds, the strangest talk-show story of the year will arrive on subscription streaming — where the host who once told America to have a seat becomes the one on the couch.
