October 14, 2026
Sony announced nine PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium additions for October 2026, staggered across Oct. 14, 20 and 27, headlined by Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon Forbidden West and day-one co-op shooter Mycopunk.
Sony is not dropping October's PlayStation Plus catalog all at once, and honestly, the staggered rollout might be the smartest part of the announcement. Instead of one Tuesday where nine games land and half of them get ignored, Extra and Premium members get three distinct moments this month — one game available right now, a heavyweight main drop on October 20, and a second wave on October 27. Push Square, ComicBook.com, FullCleared and Windows Report all reported the lineup on October 14, drawn from Sony's PlayStation Blog announcement, and the shape of the month is consistent across every outlet: nine additions in total, seven for Extra and Premium, and two Classics reserved for Premium.
Available Now: The Midnight Walk Starts the Month Early
The first arrival is also the most atmospheric. The Midnight Walk, for PS5, became available on October 14 in the United States and the United Kingdom, with Japan following on October 15, according to Push Square's breakdown of the staggered dates. It is a dark fantasy adventure built around handcrafted, clay-like environments, and coverage of the announcement noted its PS VR2 support for players who own the headset. As an opening act for a month Sony is leaning into horror season, it is a deliberate choice — a slower, stranger game given a few days of the spotlight entirely to itself before the bigger names arrive and swallow the conversation.
That breathing room matters. In a single-drop month, a game like The Midnight Walk would be the seventh bullet point in most people's mental list. Here, for nearly a week, it is effectively the PS Plus game of the moment. Whether subscribers use that window is another question, but Sony at least gave it the chance.
October 20: Mafia, Horizon's Return, and a Rare Day-One Launch
The main event lands on Tuesday, October 20. Mafia: The Old Country, for PS5, takes the crime series back to early 1900s Sicily and the origins of organized crime there, following Enzo Favara as he fights to earn a place in a Mafia family. It is the month's prestige pick — a focused, story-driven game arriving in a catalog that rewards exactly that kind of contained, finishable experience. Alongside it, Horizon Forbidden West returns to the catalog for PS5 and PS4. ComicBook.com pointed out why the listing might feel familiar: Guerrilla's open-world sequel was in the service before and was removed in 2024. Its return gives latecomers — and there are plenty, given how crowded its original release window was — a no-extra-cost route back to Aloy's journey west, fighting machines across a frontier of new tribes and old ruins.

The genuine rarity on October 20 is Mycopunk, for PS5. It is a mission-based, four-player cooperative looter shooter about battling fungal enemies, with customizable weapons — and it joins PS Plus on October 20, the day it launches on PS5 worldwide. ComicBook.com noted how unusual that is: day-one arrivals are still the exception on PlayStation Plus, not the rule, in a way they have never quite been on rival services. That distinction is worth pausing on. A day-one catalog launch changes the social maths of a co-op game. Instead of hoping your friends each spend money on an unknown shooter, an entire player base of Extra and Premium subscribers can simply download it together on night one. For a four-player co-op title, that built-in audience may be worth more than any marketing push.
Premium members get two more on October 20 from the Classics catalog, both for PS5 and PS4. Dino Crisis 2, Capcom's 2000 sequel, sends Regina back alongside newcomer Dylan after a Third Energy accident, trading the first game's facility corridors for jungles and other Cretaceous-era locations, as FullCleared detailed in its rundown. It had already been teased during September's State of Play, alongside Mycopunk. The other Classic could hardly be more different: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, Frontier's park builder, bundled with its Soaked! and Wild! expansions — water parks, animal habitats and a sandbox mode included. Dinosaurs you shoot, or dinosaurs you charge admission to see. October contains multitudes.
October 27: Horror, a Big RPG, and Supercross Close the Month
The final wave arrives October 27 in the US, UK and Japan, according to the outlets' regional breakdowns. Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, for PS5 and PS4, continues the toy-factory horror series in the most seasonally appropriate slot Sony could have picked, days before Halloween. Tales of Arise – Beyond the Dawn Edition, also PS5 and PS4, is the expanded edition of Bandai Namco's action RPG, arriving with its Beyond the Dawn expansion content folded in — easily the longest game in the month's lineup, and the one most likely to still be in subscribers' backlogs at Christmas. Monster Energy Supercross 25, for PS5, rounds out the wave with Milestone's official supercross game, tutorials and riding aids included for newcomers to its more simulation-leaning handling.
Stack the three waves together and the month has a real spread: a Sicilian crime saga, a blockbuster open-world return, a day-one co-op experiment, two very different flavors of dinosaur, a clay-built fantasy walk, toy-box horror, a sprawling JRPG and dirt bikes. Catalog months live or die on whether different kinds of players each find one thing that feels made for them. By that measure, October is one of the stronger-constructed months of the year — not because every game is a hit, but because almost no two of them are chasing the same evening.
Trials and HorrorFest Extras Sweeten Premium
Beyond the nine games, Premium members also get two game trials starting October 20: Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Mortal Shell II, with progress carrying over to the full games, ComicBook.com reported, though the trial lengths were not specified. Sony is also running HorrorFest extras around the catalog. The Tunnel of Terror expansion for Back 4 Blood — a game already in the Extra catalog — will be free for members from October 21, with steep discounts reported on the game's other expansions, and Dead by Daylight gets a community challenge running October 20 to 26: if players collectively complete 10 million matches in that window, members unlock an exclusive pack. None of that is headline material on its own, but it is the kind of connective tissue that makes a subscription feel alive between drops rather than like a shelf that gets restocked once a month.
A practical note, because it always applies: Sony flags that catalog lineups can vary by region, so the dates above — especially the split October 14 and 15 start for The Midnight Walk and the October 27 wave named for the US, UK and Japan — are worth confirming in your local PlayStation Store. And if you are tracking the wider subscription wars this month, our coverage of Valor Mortis and Battlefield 6 on Game Pass and Nintendo's latest GBA additions to Switch Online shows how differently the three platform holders are playing the same game. Sony's October answer is breadth, timing, and one rare day-one bet. Our recommendation: claim The Midnight Walk this week while it has the stage to itself, squad up for Mycopunk on the 20th, and let Mafia wait for nobody — Sicily in October just sounds right.
