Jake Paul picked the date himself, and he picked it loud.
"I've spent years proving people wrong, taking risks and pushing myself against opponents nobody thought I would face," Paul said Thursday, announcing his return. "Nothing that's happened has changed my belief in myself or what I'm working toward. I am hungrier than ever and on December 24 I'm returning to the ring in Dubai to start the next chapter of my journey."
"We've got plenty of names on the list; let's see who signs the contract," he added. "Merry Christmas, Dubai. Santa Paul is coming to town, and somebody's getting knocked out."
Most Valuable Promotions made it official Thursday morning: Paul headlines an MVP card on Thursday, December 24, 2026 — Christmas Eve — in Dubai, his first professional fight in the city. The event runs under a cooperation agreement between MVP, the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. One detail is missing, and it's the biggest one: there is no opponent.
The jaw that nearly ended it
A year ago, this announcement would have sounded impossible. On December 19, 2025, in Miami, Anthony Joshua knocked Paul out in the sixth round and broke his jaw in two places. Paul underwent surgeries in December and again in February. At one point, he said publicly that the injury might end his career.
Three weeks ago, the comeback was only a clearance. Paul was medically cleared to return earlier this month, and we asked the question out loud: would he ever actually fight again? Thursday's announcement is the answer. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian framed the return the same way: "Twelve months ago he suffered a double broken jaw against a two-time heavyweight world champion and since then many have doubted his desire or need to return to boxing. Well he is back, and that tells you everything about the competitor Jake Paul is and how much he loves this sport."
Paul's record stands at 12-2 with 7 knockouts. In fourteen professional fights, the only men to beat him are Tommy Fury, who took a decision in February 2023, and Joshua.
So who signs?
"We're finalizing an opponent worthy of Jake's return," Bidarian said, "and look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks."
The reported frontrunner is Darren Till — Bloody Elbow reports Till is at the front of the line, and Till himself says he is waiting on a contract; he still has one fight left on his BKFC deal, which is one of the knots to untie. Paul's own hit list, posted when he was cleared, swings bigger: Conor McGregor, Canelo Álvarez, Francis Ngannou, Deontay Wilder, Nate Diaz, Tom Aspinall and Sean Strickland. Two names are already off the board — KSI has retired, and a Tommy Fury rematch is not in the running, per The Athletic.
Whoever it is, the reveal lands in the coming weeks, and the gap between the list Paul talks about and the name that actually signs has been the story of his whole career. Dubai, he says, fits the ambition either way: "Dubai is a city that thinks big, breaks boundaries, and doesn't believe in limits. That's exactly the kind of place I want to make my comeback."
Why everybody will watch anyway
Say what you want about the matchmaking — the audience follows him. Paul's November 2024 fight with Mike Tyson drew a reported 125 million viewers globally on Live+1 numbers. Even the Joshua fight, the night that put him in surgery, drew a reported 33 million. A Christmas Eve card in Dubai, a year to the week after the worst night of his career, with the opponent still a mystery, is exactly the kind of spectacle those numbers are built on.
The jaw is healed. The date is set. The city is booked. Now somebody just has to sign.
