Vancouver needed less than a minute to put Seattle behind, and fewer than nine to double the advantage. By the time Brian White scored his second goal, the Whitecaps were four goals clear and their striker had reached a milestone no player had managed in the club’s MLS era: 100 goals for Vancouver across all competitions.

The Whitecaps beat the Sounders 5–1 at BC Place on Sunday, November 1, turning their final regular-season home match into a combination of a rivalry rout and an individual celebration. White scored twice, Ryan Gauld supplied a goal and two assists, and Mathías Laborda and Aleksa Cvetković also scored. Jordan Morris provided Seattle’s only reply. The result and scoring sequence are recorded in Seattle’s official match report.

Vancouver had secured the Western Conference’s top seed before kickoff, following Saturday’s results. Sunday brought another three points and a complete sweep of the season’s Cascadia Cup matches. For Seattle, the loss left a final regular-season home game against LAFC as the next opportunity to respond.

The opening Seattle could not recover from

White’s first goal came in the opening minute. Bruno Caicedo delivered the cross and White met it with a header, putting Vancouver in front before Seattle had settled into the match. Gauld made it 2–0 in the ninth minute after Édier Ocampo worked the ball in from the right.

Vancouver created the goals from opposite sides of the field. Caicedo’s opening delivery came from the left after a pass from Gauld; Ocampo then supplied the second from the right. White attacked the cross in the air, while Gauld finished left-footed. Seattle was already two goals down before either side had played ten minutes.

Laborda added the third in the 43rd minute, heading in Gauld’s delivery before halftime. That sequence gave Vancouver goals from its striker, captain and a defender, with Gauld involved in both creating and finishing. Field Level Media’s match account describes the three first-half goals and the 3–0 interval lead.

Seattle made four substitutions at halftime, bringing on Paul Arriola, Sebastian Gomez, Stuart Hawkins and Hassani Dotson. The changes did not produce an immediate reversal. White scored again in the 53rd minute, finishing left-footed from another Caicedo delivery. The deficit had grown to four before Morris scored in the 62nd. Cvetković subsequently restored Vancouver’s four-goal margin, completing the scoring.

White’s century belongs to Vancouver

The significance of White’s second finish went beyond the afternoon’s score. It was his 100th goal for Vancouver across all competitions, making him the first player in the Whitecaps’ MLS era to reach that total. The Canadian Press, reporting through Sportsnet, confirmed the milestone and described his second goal’s close-range finish.

White had reached a separate century earlier in the week in his MLS career. Sunday’s landmark was entirely in a Vancouver shirt, counting his goals for the club across competitions. His first finish of the afternoon took that total to 99; the second completed the century and gave him another reason to celebrate a match Vancouver already controlled.

Vancouver’s own post-match milestone announcement confirms the club century. It also places the team’s result in a wider season: the Whitecaps finished the afternoon with 61 points and set club regular-season home records of 11 wins and 35 points. The home schedule ended with Vancouver turning a strong league position into another emphatic result in front of its own supporters.

Gauld’s contribution was central to the result. His goal established the two-goal cushion, and his service helped Vancouver extend it before the break. White supplied the landmark finishes, but the win was not built around one scorer alone. Four different Whitecaps players scored, and the team added goals on both sides of halftime.

A sweep completed, different tasks ahead

The victory completed Vancouver’s four-win Cascadia Cup campaign against Seattle and Portland. MLS’s official reaction identifies the Whitecaps as the first team to finish that supporters’ competition with a perfect record since its launch in 2004. The Cup itself had already been secured; Sunday completed the sweep rather than deciding who would lift it.

The clubs left BC Place with different immediate concerns. Vancouver could look ahead with its place at the top of the West secured. Seattle still had work to do: the Sounders’ official post-match report placed them ninth with 43 points, holding the final postseason position at the time of writing. Their regular-season finale against LAFC would follow a difficult afternoon in which Morris’ goal was their only scoring response.

Vancouver closes its regular season away to CF Montréal on November 7. Its official match report lists a return to BC Place on November 22 for the opening game of its first-round playoff series. The club’s top-seed announcement explains that Vancouver would also host the Western Conference semifinals and final if it advances. Reaching those rounds still has to be earned.

For Sunday, the accomplishment is complete and specific. Vancouver started quickly, carried a three-goal lead into halftime and finished with five. White left with two goals and a club century, while the Whitecaps closed their home regular-season schedule with a perfect regional campaign. Seattle’s next opportunity to respond comes against LAFC; there was no recovering this afternoon at BC Place.
