Fifteen years is a long time between albums, and She Wants Revenge chose to end the wait in the middle of a hot streak. According to The Hype Magazine, the darkwave duo announced their new album The Loved on Monday, October 19, alongside a 2027 tour — and BroadwayWorld reported the detail that makes the announcement historic for the band: The Loved is their fourth studio album, due February 12, 2027, and their first full-length release in more than 15 years. Kerrang! reported the same February 12, 2027 date and the same framing — a first album in 15 years, arriving two decades after the self-titled debut that made their name.
The announcement did not arrive empty-handed. Kerrang! reported that the band shared the album’s lead single, “Black Wax / Our Love,” with the news, and The Hype Magazine’s announcement carried the single’s artwork alongside the full tour itinerary. For a group whose catalog has been kept alive by club play, sync placements and a new generation of streaming listeners, a brand-new single matters as much as the album date: it is proof, two decades in, that She Wants Revenge intend to be a working band again rather than a nostalgia act trading on two famous songs.
“Beautiful and destructive at the same time”
Adam Bravin explained the new single’s themes in comments reported by Kerrang!: “We’ve always been fascinated by the contradictions in love: how something can be beautiful and destructive at the same time, and how you can know something isn’t good for you and still find yourself drawn to it.” Kerrang! reported that Bravin described a darkness in “Black Wax” balanced by energy and defiance, calling the track a natural evolution of what the band has always been about rather than an attempt to recreate earlier work. On the single’s video, Kerrang! reported, Bravin said he wanted it to feel like a fragment of a film walked into halfway through — beautiful but unsettling, with the imagery carrying as much emotional weight as the music.
That tension — romance curdling into obsession, desire shadowed by damage — has been the band’s signature since the 2006 debut produced “Tear You Apart” and “These Things.” AudioFuzz, in its October 19 coverage of the announcement, argued that the new material keeps the darkness but makes it feel purposeful rather than preserved, and that the band sound energized by the tension rather than trapped by their own formula. Whether The Loved sustains that balance across a full album is the open question of the next four months; the title alone suggests the band know exactly which nerve they are pressing.
A working band, rebuilt
The current She Wants Revenge is a fuller live machine than the duo format of the early years. AudioFuzz reported the present lineup: Justin Warfield on vocals and guitar, Adam Bravin on Bass VI and synths, Thomas Froggatt on bass, Tony Bevilacqua of The Distillers on guitar, and Lia Braswell — whose credits include Chelsea Wolfe, A Place to Bury Strangers and TR/ST — on drums. Ghost Cult Magazine’s coverage of the band’s recent activity carried the same lineup and the same point: this is a reinvigorated group, writing and recording between tours rather than simply revisiting the back catalog.
The resurgence underneath the announcement is measurable. The Hype Magazine’s earlier tour coverage noted that twenty-plus years into their career the band are experiencing a renewed surge — more than 2.8 million monthly listeners on streaming, by that report’s count — helped by a deep cut from the 2009 Up and Down EP going viral on TikTok and introducing the band to listeners who were not born when the debut arrived. BroadwayWorld framed the album the same way: a band excited to perform for longtime fans and for a new generation discovering the music now.
The road: sold-out fall, then Europe and the UK
The announcement lands mid-tour. The Hype Magazine’s itinerary for the current North American fall run shows a band in demand: sold-out stops in Ventura, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Sacramento and San Diego, with San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom on October 18 and Felton Music Hall in Felton, California, on October 19 — the very day of the announcement. The run continues to the Sick New World Festival in Fort Worth on October 24, then Milwaukee on October 25, sold-out houses in Chicago, Detroit and Toronto, Huntington on October 30, Philadelphia’s Brooklyn Bowl on October 31, Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club on November 1, New York’s Webster Hall on November 2, and Asbury Park’s Stone Pony on November 4. Racket Magazine’s recent review of the Portland stop described a sold-out Revolution Hall and a band rolling through nearly twenty songs — evidence, if any were needed, that the live draw is ahead of the recorded output.
The newly announced 2027 leg takes the band across the Atlantic in winter, per The Hype Magazine and BroadwayWorld: Bucharest’s Control Club on January 29, Warsaw’s Palladium on January 31, Berlin’s Kesselhaus on February 1, Cologne on February 3, Utrecht on February 5, Paris’s Le Trabendo on February 6, Brighton’s Concorde 2 on February 7, London’s Electric Ballroom on February 9, Bristol’s Fleece on February 10, Manchester’s Club Academy on February 11, Glasgow’s SWG3 on February 12 — the day the album arrives — and Dublin’s Whelans on February 14. AudioFuzz also noted a homecoming of sorts before the year ends: the band return to Southern California on December 11 for the Hazy Shade of Winter Holiday Celebration and food and toy drive at Fox Pomona.
Fifteen years between albums would bury most bands. She Wants Revenge have instead spent the gap becoming a bigger live draw than they were at their commercial peak, and The Loved now has a date, a single and a tour wrapped around it. February 12, 2027 is the test of whether the revival becomes a second act. Until then, the fall crowds are already voting yes.
