- Amanda Arcuri (Skye) and Ian Quinlan (Deputy Hank Iglesias) were promoted to series regulars; 20 episodes are on order.
LAS VEGAS — The Fire Country universe keeps expanding, and tonight the spinoff that proved it could stand on its own comes back swinging. Sheriff Country Season 2 premieres Friday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS with an episode called "Cyclone" — and Sheriff Mickey Fox is walking into it with her entire family history rewritten.
Let's rewind to where Season 1 left us, because this is the rare cliffhanger you actually need the recap for. Mickey spent most of her life believing her mother was dead. The finale revealed that Eva Santos — a DEA deputy director played by Rachel Ticotin — is that mother, Maria Fox. Her father Wes (W. Earl Brown) learned the truth in the same final moments. Per the Season 2 trailer, Mickey tells her mother she had 35 years to come back and picked now, which is maybe the most withering line a sheriff has ever delivered on this network.
And that revelation wasn't the only one. The finale also exposed Mickey's boyfriend, DEA agent Alec Kane, as a corrupt officer tied to a criminal operation in Edgewater, ending in a shootout that left Deputy Nathan Boone wounded — he survived — with a dangerous Bulgarian cartel now threatening the town, per DK Network's recap. So tonight's premiere has to do two jobs at once: process the deepest personal wound Mickey's ever taken while racing to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation uncovers a growing threat to all of Edgewater. A rescue doesn't wait for anyone to sort out their mommy issues.

Showrunner Matt Lopez wrote the hour, Ed Ornelas directs, and Lopez has said the premiere will explain how Eva went from Wes's wife to a DEA boss — the backstory that reframes everything Mickey thought she knew. Boone (Matt Lauria) tells Cassidy he'll do whatever his sheriff asks, but he doesn't think she's okay. That line, from the pre-air coverage, is doing a lot of heavy lifting: the town needs Mickey sharp, and she is anything but.
The ensemble is expanding, too. Amanda Arcuri (Skye Fraley) and Ian Quinlan (Deputy Hank Iglesias) were promoted to series regulars for Season 2, per Parade — so expect more of Skye and Hank in bigger roles. All the first-season regulars return: Baccarin, Lauria, Brown, Michele Weaver (Deputy Cassidy Campbell), Christopher Gorham (Travis Fraley), plus Caroline Rhea as Gina, Sean Bell as Punch (whose storyline digs into what happened to his mom), Rachel Ticotin back as Eva, and Jenny Raven as Emmy Yorke. Diane Farr is also set to swing by from Fire Country as Sharon Leone from time to time — the two shows keep their doors open to each other, including a two-hour crossover event slated for Nov. 6.
The premiere's big guest is a fun piece of casting: Ben McKenzie plays Sheriff Jim Wade, a neighboring sheriff called in to help Mickey who has a few secrets of his own. McKenzie is Baccarin's husband in real life — the two met on Gotham and married in 2017 — so the on-screen professional distance takes some acting. It's at least the premiere, per Parade, and it's the kind of stunt casting that works because the real chemistry is already built in.

Zoom out and the vote of confidence is the story. CBS renewed Sheriff Country for a second season back in December 2025, barely into its debut run — the series premiered Oct. 17, 2025, and ran 20 episodes in its first season. A spinoff earning an early renewal is the network saying the Fire Country universe is a franchise now, not an experiment. Season 2 has 20 episodes on order, per TVmaze, and episodes stream on Paramount+ the next day.
The premiere also gets the lead-off slot for CBS's entire Friday night — Sheriff Country at 8, Fire Country Season 5 at 9, Boston Blue Season 2 at 10. Three hours of emergencies, investigations, and family complications, as TV Cave's Friday guide put it. For a Friday in October, that's a pretty good deal.
