THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2026 — The Triple-I Initiative just proved once again that the best game-showcase format is the simplest one. Forty games. Eight world premieres. Forty-five minutes. Zero ads, zero host, zero fluff. Evil Empire’s indie showcase returned for its first-ever fall edition this morning at 9am PT / noon ET, and it was an absolute sprint — back-to-back trailers from Amanita Design, Norsfell, Strange Scaffold, Team17, and dozens more studios, with world premieres, release dates, shadowdrops, and DLC reveals stacked on top of each other. Here is everything that mattered.
Aftergods: the world premiere
The biggest swing of the morning was Aftergods, the showcase’s headline world premiere. It’s a new top-down “survivalite” ARPG from the makers of Tribes of Midgard — the studio that already proved it knows how to build a great co-op Norse game. This time, though, you’re not one of the Vikings defending the gods. You are one: a god who survived Ragnarök, rising from the aftermath to form a brand-new pantheon and restore the fallen Seeds of the World Tree.
The pitch: recruit followers, build temples, and battle giant monsters across a mythical handcrafted open world — solo or with friends. And the reveal trailer went big: scored by a live orchestra of more than 60 musicians, with an animated sequence by the team behind Netflix’s Blood of Zeus and Castlevania. That is not indie-trailer behavior. That’s a studio swinging for the fences. It’s confirmed for Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Among Us Story: On Guard finally gets a date
Among Us Story: On Guard finally has a release date: February 17, 2027. The standalone detective narrative game from the creators of Among Us is coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile. The pitch is a hard pivot for the franchise — a single-player narrative mystery where you have to prove your innocence before the Impostor gets to the rest of the crew… and you. After years of social-deduction chaos with friends, Innersloth is betting there’s an audience that wants to play detective alone. And honestly? The Among Us universe is perfect for it. The paranoia is already baked in.

Astral Ascent’s free update is out now
Available right now: Astral Ascent’s free update, “Expedition 33 For Those Who Come After,” launched today, October 8. After more than four years of updates, the acclaimed platformer roguelite is getting both the main cast and iconic bosses — including Mimes and Pétank — as playable, plus 6 new summons, 3 bosses, 2 music tracks, and 3 new rooms. It’s free on Steam, Humble, the Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 4 and 5, and the original Switch. And yes — you can hug the Esquie. Of course you can.

Brotato: Primal Dread drops November 2
Brotato is back, and it’s going prehistoric. Primal Dread, the new DLC, launches November 2, 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic, GOG) — bigger enemies, dinosaurs, new brotatoes, new weapons and items, all built around the thesis that potatoes are the true apex predators. Consoles (Xbox One and Series, PlayStation 4 and 5, Switch 1 and 2) and mobile (iOS and Android) follow in early 2027.

The rest of the rapid-fire rundown
With roughly 40 slots in 45 minutes, most games got about a minute each — and plenty of them earned it. The other reveals that stuck the landing:
Dave the Diver x Subnautica 2. A crossover DLC bringing Subnautica 2’s alien oceans into Dave’s Blue Hole, coming early 2027 to Steam, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, Switch 1 and 2, and the Epic Games Store. Dave the Diver has passed 10 million sales since its early access launch in October 2022, so this is a meeting of two deep-sea giants.
Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts. The fourth DLC expansion is available today, October 8, on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store — new regions of Petrichor V, new bosses and enemies, and powers never before possible in the game.
Machinarium 2. The sequel to Amanita Design’s 2009 adventure classic is real. Josef and Berta are finally reunited, you guide both of them, the whole thing is hand-drawn, and Tomáš DvoĆák — Floex — is back on the score. Wishlists open now.
Chained Together. The first official new map arrives November 12. The sneak peek showed desks, chairs, PC monitors… fresh hell indeed.
Hela: of Mice & Magic. The demo is playable for the first time on Steam, Epic, and the Microsoft Store; the full game launches December 1.
Haunted Paws. Free Steam demo out now, with PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch 1 and 2 releases announced.
Kingdom Two Crowns: Pharaoh Lands. An ancient-Egypt-inspired DLC — deserts, pyramids, gods, riddles — launching in 2026.
Dandelion Void. Demo shadowdropped on Steam today; the co-op worker-owned dev’s doomed-generation-ship survival game hits Early Access in 2027.
Little Prince Tyger. A bloody 2D action roguelike with 1,000+ single-screen levels — playtest live October 8–18.
Isle Goblin. The first open playtest is live now on Steam for the solo-dev survival-crafter backed by Fireshine Games and Pocketpair Publishing.
The breadth is the point. A cinematic Y2K-era Chinese horror game (JIAOHUN, 2027), a French Revolution narrative deckbuilder from the original Gwent designer (Lazare’s Sacrifice), a co-op PvE shooter from the Breathedge team (Canyons), an Escape the Backrooms “After Party” update — the Triple-I continues to be the one showcase where a dozen wildly different games all get the same 60 seconds of respect.

Why this showcase keeps working
The Triple-I is now in its third year, and this is the second showcase of 2026 alone — which tells you everything about how much demand there is for an indie showcase that respects your time. Evil Empire’s head of business Benjamin Laulan told Polygon last month that the team picks from more than 300 submissions for roughly 40 slots. No ads. No host. Forty-five minutes. It’s a not-for-profit operation built around one idea: the games are the show. On a day when Xbox is building entire corporate divisions to sell you franchises, the Triple-I just reminded everyone that showing 40 games in 45 minutes is still the best way to make people care about them.
