TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2026 — The Strip is a construction zone with a skyline, a hockey team with a road trip to finish, and a baseball stadium rising on the old Tropicana footprint — but no casino rising with it. Meanwhile Phoenix said goodbye to a familiar voice and Los Angeles gets a doubleheader of its own tonight. Las Vegas and the Southwest, October 6.
The scoreboardKnights in Seattle, both teams 2-1
The Golden Knights wrap their two-game Pacific Northwest road trip tonight at Climate Pledge Arena against the Kraken — 6:40 PM PT on ESPN+, with the Vegas broadcast on Scripps (The Spot-Vegas 34), streaming on KnightTime+ and radio on X 107.9 and 105.7 Maxima. Both clubs sit at 2-1, and neither is easing into October.
Vegas took Sunday’s trip opener 3-2 in Vancouver, its eighth straight regulation win over the Canucks — the longest such streak against one opponent in franchise history. The storylines wrote themselves: Adin Hill made his first start in net since April and stopped 18 shots, Mitch Marner scored his first goal as a Golden Knight, and fourth-liner Marc Gatcomb — an ex-Islander — buried the late go-ahead goal for his first in a Vegas sweater. Saturday’s scene-setter on the road trip.
Seattle counters with the hottest offense of the young season: two 6-1 demolitions of Calgary wrapped around a 3-1 loss in Edmonton. Newcomer Mackie Samoskevich, activated off the injured list, scored his first two goals as a Kraken in the home opener; Berkly Catton added a goal and an assist; and Joey Daccord has stopped 56 of 58 shots in two starts. This one has goals in it. The full Tuesday NHL slate.

The StripCranes, clarifications, and an 80th birthday
The biggest development story in town is what won’t be open on Opening Day. Bally’s executives have told Nevada gaming regulators that the company never intended its casino-resort to debut alongside the Athletics’ $2 billion ballpark in April 2028 — the 2028 deadline covers the stadium itself plus Bally’s retail and dining district, parking garage, utilities and plaza, with the two hotel towers and the casino arriving later. The company’s land-use applications are still pending with Clark County, and it is still waiting on FAA height clearances for the towers. We laid out the full timeline, the money, and what the district becomes.
A few miles north, the future is literally rising: Hard Rock’s Guitar Hotel has passed the construction midpoint on the old Mirage site, with 28 stories of framework laid and the neck of the giant guitar still to climb toward 660 feet. The project remains on pace for a late-2027 opening — and it is already blocking sightlines, from the lower floors of Treasure Island to southbound views of the Trump International. The 42-story instrument will dominate the Strip skyline when it debuts, and the sign war it has already ignited tells you everything about how seriously the neighbors take it.
And the Strip’s elder statesman is getting its close-up: Suffolk Construction is leading the Flamingo’s 80th-anniversary overhaul — a reimagined lobby with a new centerpiece bar, upgraded registration for standard and VIP guests, refreshed public spaces and a revived Bugsy’s Bar, timed to the property’s 80th birthday in December. The Flamingo opened December 26, 1946, and remains the oldest continuously operating brand on Las Vegas Boulevard. Its newest neighbor, Luke Combs’s Category 10, opens next door on October 15.

The SouthwestA voice departs Phoenix, and L.A. plays twice
In Phoenix, the Diamondbacks are parting ways with television voice Steve Berthiaume after 14 seasons — the longest play-by-play tenure in franchise history. Berthiaume, who joined ahead of the 2013 season after 12 years at ESPN, told the Arizona Republic he was “obviously surprised and disappointed.” Club president Derrick Hall called it a moment to “take a step back and re-evaluate our broadcasts.” Radio voice Chris Garagiola is expected to be among the candidates to step up. The change lands days after the club gave manager Torey Lovullo a two-year deal following an 86-76 season — the best record of any MLB team that missed the playoffs.
Los Angeles gets a soccer-baseball doubleheader tonight. Mexico faces Chile at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum (7:30 PT, Univision/TUDN/ViX) with Rafa Márquez still chasing his first win in charge after draws with Colombia and Peru and a 3-0 loss to the United States. And in Atlanta, the Dodgers’ NLDS is even at 1-1 heading into Game 3 — Chris Sale starts for the Braves against Yoshinobu Yamamoto, with Max Muncy having homered in both games of the series so far. Full Game 3 preview.
Back in Vegas tonight, the fights stay local: Dana White’s Contender Series runs its week at the Meta APEX, with five bouts and ten prospects chasing contracts. The DWCS 95 card preview.

The week aheadWhat’s on deck
Awakening’s final curtain falls Saturday at Wynn (the farewell story). The ALDS Game 3s go Wednesday — the Yankees face elimination against the Rays and the White Sox can close out the Guardians (the Wednesday preview). Luke Combs’s Category 10 opens October 15 at the Flamingo. And the Strip’s cranes aren’t going anywhere — we’ll be back tomorrow with the next Vegas Daily.
