The Short Version
- Five teams entered Week 5 winless; only three remain. The Buccaneers beat the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football and the Texans beat the Titans 26-3 on Sunday, leaving Tennessee, Miami and the Chargers as the league's only winless teams.
- The projected No. 1 pick: the 0-5 Titans hold it over the 0-5 Dolphins via strength of schedule (.506 vs. .603). The 0-4 Chargers sit third.
- The Jets are the draft's biggest power brokers. New York holds three 2027 first-rounders — its own plus picks via the Cowboys and the Colts — at Nos. 9, 10 and 12 in the projected order. The Browns also hold two, including the Rams' pick at No. 15.
- The fine print: this order is projected via Tankathon, which calculates strength of schedule differently from the NFL — and everything will change. Five weeks is not a season.
HOUSTON
It is the race nobody wants to win, and five weeks in, the Tennessee Titans are winning it. Sunday's 26-3 demolition by the Houston Texans dropped Tennessee to 0-5 and — via strength of schedule — handed the Titans the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, per the updated order compiled by Tankathon and reported by USA Today.
The Texans made sure of it in the most emphatic way possible. Houston sacked rookie quarterback Cam Ward four times and held Tennessee to just 187 total yards, while C.J. Stroud completed 26 of 34 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown and powered in a rushing score of his own. The win was Houston's first of the season, and it pulled the Texans out of the No. 1 spot they had occupied entering the week — down to fourth, where they're now the closest thing this order has to a team pointed the right way. As USA Today put it, Houston will hope the win sparks a run toward the AFC wild-card race rather than a second consecutive trip into top-pick territory.
The other big mover in the tank race was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who beat the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football to escape the winless column — landing at No. 5 in the projected order. So of the five winless teams that entered Week 5, only three remain: the Titans, the Dolphins and the Chargers.

Here's the full projected first-round order as Week 5 results come in, per Tankathon's model (strength of schedule calculated the Tankathon way, which differs from the NFL's official tiebreak):
Projected 2027 first-round order — after Week 5
Now, what does it all mean for the fanbases involved? Start at the top. The Titans' situation is the draft's great paradox: they already spent the No. 1 pick last year on Cam Ward, who is getting buried alive behind an offensive line that just let Houston sack him four times in a 187-yard team performance. If Tennessee finishes here, the question isn't which quarterback — it's whether you take the best non-quarterback in the class or trade down to a desperate team and stockpile. Either way, the asset is enormous. (See our winless-showdown preview and last week's Ravens loss for how this happened.)
The Dolphins, at 0-5 with the harder schedule, are the co-favorites for the top spot and the fanbase most likely to be done pretending. Miami's season has been a slow-motion franchise reset in everything but name — a top-two pick is the kind of asset that accelerates an actual reset, quarterback or otherwise. The Chargers, at 0-4, are the shock of the board: a team that entered the season with real expectations now sitting third, and their fans are already reading trade rumors instead of playoff scenarios.
Then there's the Jets, and the Jets are the story. Three first-round picks — their own at No. 12, plus Dallas's at No. 9 and Indianapolis's at No. 10 — in a draft class that FanSided's post-Week-5 mock ranks among the more talented and enticing draft classes in recent memory, with polarizing quarterbacks like Arch Manning and Drew Mestemaker joined by elite non-QB talent like Jeremiah Smith and Colin Simmons. Holding the 9th, 10th and 12th picks is absurd leverage: New York can take three swings, package two to move up for a franchise quarterback, or auction one to the highest bidder. For a franchise that has lived in quarterback purgatory, this is the kind of draft capital that changes a decade.
The Browns are quietly in the same business: two first-rounders, their own at No. 21 and the Rams' at No. 15. That's two top-15-adjacent bites at a roster that has spent years hunting for answers at the sport's most important position. And the Cowboys hold the Packers' pick at No. 22 via trade — the back half of the first round is filling up with other teams' assets.
A word on the fine print before anyone starts engraving anything. This is a projection, not a result. Tankathon's strength-of-schedule calculation differs from the NFL's, and the NFL's actual tiebreak for non-playoff teams runs on SOS then division/conference tiebreakers — the order above is a snapshot of where things would land if the season ended today, not the official order. Five weeks is not a season: last year's draft board looked nothing like October's, and teams like the Texans, Buccaneers and Chargers entered the season as playoff picks with far too much talent to stay in this neighborhood. The order will move. It always does.
But for now, the picture is stark. Tennessee and Miami are the only winless teams left standing, the Chargers are the surprise cratering contender, and the Jets — the Jets — are holding three golden tickets while sitting at 2-3. Check our Week 5 playoff picture and last week's draft-order snapshot to see how fast this board is moving.
