Arsenal 1, Hull City 0 at the Emirates — goalless for 71 minutes against a newly promoted side defending for its life, settled by the captain pouncing on a rebound, and Arsenal head into the international break six points clear at the top.
Arsenal beat Hull City 1–0 at the Emirates Stadium in Premier League Matchday 10 on Saturday, November 7, 2026 — and for 71 minutes the defending champions could not find a way through a newly promoted side that defended resolutely and meant it.
The Chances Came and Went
The chances came and went. Ezri Konsa flicked a Noni Madueke cross to the far post inside five minutes and Gabriel could not quite nudge it over the line. Hull answered with the half's best save: Elliot Stroud forced David Raya into a full-stretch stop at 19 minutes. Declan Rice fired narrowly wide at 28, and at 40 Kai Havertz went through one-on-one, tried to cut back onto his left foot, and lost the chance.
The Penalty That Wasn't
Then came the controversy. Near the end of the first half Havertz's shirt was pulled by Nobel Mendy, Arsenal appealed for a penalty — and the VAR check killed it: Havertz was adjudged to have been offside as he was fouled, so no penalty was given.
The Captain Breaks It
Arsenal stepped up the intensity after the break. Madueke forced Tzolakis into a near-post save at 57 minutes, and on 72 the pressure finally told: Madueke's shot was saved by Tzolakis and Martin Ødegaard reacted quickest, converting the rebound for the only goal of the match — his third Premier League goal of the season. Madueke had a late chance to wrap it up at 87, stopped as he tried to round the goalkeeper before Hull cleared the deflection off the line, and Arsenal saw out their seventh clean sheet of the season.
The result sends Arsenal six points clear at the top of the Premier League — nine wins from 10 matches — heading into the international break.
