Arsenal's Seven-Minute Blitz, a Seven-Goal Classic at San Siro: The Late Matchday 2 Wrap

Arsenal scored three times in seven minutes to beat Lille 3-0, Club Brugge won 4-3 at Inter behind a Nicolò Tresoldi hat-trick, Barcelona hit four in Istanbul, Viking FK held Bayern Munich 3-3 and Atlético Madrid beat 10-man Manchester United 2-0 — the late Matchday 2 wrap from the Previously sports desk.

The late window of Champions League Matchday 2 delivered just about everything on Tuesday night: a seven-minute blitz at the Emirates, a seven-goal classic at San Siro, a statement win for Barcelona in Istanbul and, in Stavanger, one of the great underdog points of the league phase as Viking FK drew 3-3 with Bayern Munich. Here is the whole late slate, wrapped.

Arsenal 3-0 Lille: Three Goals in Seven Minutes

For an hour at the Emirates, Lille held firm. Arsenal rotated, probed and grew frustrated — Ayase Ueda even had a goal ruled out for offside at the other end — but the resistance broke on 64 minutes and then simply collapsed. Jurriën Timber lifted the opener over the goalkeeper from Noni Madueke's pass, Eberechi Eze doubled it three minutes later from Bukayo Saka's pass, and Saka himself made it three on 71 minutes after slick interplay with Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz.

The final numbers flattered nobody: Arsenal put eight of their 16 shots on target, while Lille managed four shots in total, none on target, and not a single corner. It is two wins from two for Mikel Arteta's side, who followed their Matchday 1 victory at Napoli with another clean sheet — and their substitutes, Saka chief among them, underlined the depth Arteta can call on.

Inter 3-4 Club Brugge: The Game of the Night

San Siro staged a classic. Nicolò Tresoldi, the young Brugge forward Italy are courting, opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 30 minutes; Lautaro Martínez levelled before half-time from Federico Dimarco's assist. Tresoldi struck again on 63 minutes, set up by Carlos Forbs, and completed his hat-trick on 74, turning in a rebound after Inter's goalkeeper parried a Forbs strike.

Inter, who finished with an astonishing 30 shots and 12 on target, refused to fold. Lautaro's second goal on 81 minutes cut it to 3-2 and set up a frantic finish, but Romeo Vermant — set up by Forbs again — restored the two-goal cushion on 87. Ange-Yoan Bonny's stoppage-time goal made it 4-3 and guaranteed a breathless ending, yet Brugge held on, with Yann Sommer making nine saves against his former club. Inter, beaten by Real Madrid on Matchday 1, are pointless after two games; Brugge have their first win of the campaign and three points.

Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona: The Lamine Yamal Show

Istanbul roared when Alexey Batrakov, set up by Rafael Leão, put Galatasaray ahead on 28 minutes, and for a while Rams Park believed. João Cancelo levelled before the break from Dani Olmo's pass, and then the second half belonged to Lamine Yamal: on 50 minutes his cross was powered in by Fermín López, three minutes later he created the third for Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi added the fourth on 65.

Barcelona finished with 71 percent of the ball and 22 shots, 11 of them on target, and they have won both of their league-phase games. Galatasaray, beaten at Sporting CP on Matchday 1, remain pointless — and were caught offside eight times as they chased the game.

Viking FK 3-3 Bayern Munich: A Famous Point in Stavanger

The night's biggest story might have come at its smallest venue. Viking, playing their first Champions League home match since 1992, led the German champions 2-0: Gianni Stensness scored inside two minutes from Zlatko Tripic's delivery, and Peter Christiansen doubled the lead on 38 minutes from Erik Botheim's pass.

Harry Kane dragged Bayern back into it — a penalty on 54 minutes, then a second on the hour from Joshua Kimmich's pass — and when Luis Díaz put Bayern 3-2 ahead on 71 minutes, the comeback looked complete. But Michael Olise was sent off two minutes later, Viking threw everything forward, and in the 90th minute Haugen, again from a Tripic assist, levelled it at 3-3. Bayern had 25 shots and two-thirds of the ball; Viking put five of their eight shots on target and took a point that will be talked about in Stavanger for years.

Leipzig Edge PSV, Villarreal See Off Napoli

In Leipzig, a tight game turned on two moments. Ivan Perišić won a first-half penalty for PSV — and saw it saved by Maarten Vandevoordt, diving to keep it out with his legs. Brajan Gruda's 75th-minute strike, swept in from distance with his left foot, settled it 1-0 for Leipzig, who had lost heavily at Como on Matchday 1. PSV had 13 corners and the larger share of possession, but they stay on one point.

In Villarreal, Napoli struck first through Amir Rrahmani on eight minutes, but the lead lasted barely a quarter of an hour: Georges Mikautadze levelled on 23, Santiago Mouriño put Villarreal ahead three minutes later from Gerard Moreno's assist, and substitute Tani Oluwaseyi, set up by Ayoze Pérez, sealed a 3-1 win on 86 minutes. Napoli, beaten at home by Arsenal on Matchday 1, remain pointless; Villarreal have three points.

Atlético Madrid 2-0 Manchester United: Done Inside a Minute

The ninth late game has its own full wrap, but it belongs in this count. Pablo Barrios put Atlético ahead inside the first minute at the Metropolitano, from Álex Baena's assist; Johnny Cardoso had a 43rd-minute goal ruled out for a handball by Marcos Llorente in the build-up; Leny Yoro was sent off on 74 minutes; and Ademola Lookman sealed the 2-0 win on 79. United's defeat stretched their winless run to five matches in all competitions.

The Night in One Breath

Add the early window — Sporting CP's win at Lens and Sabah FK's first Champions League victory, over Slavia Prague — and Tuesday's nine Matchday 2 games produced 32 goals, a hat-trick at San Siro, a comeback in Istanbul and a draw in Stavanger that felt like a win. Arsenal, Barcelona and Sporting CP sit on maximum points after two rounds. Inter, Napoli and Galatasaray are still waiting for their first.
